Unisource Re-Commits to Healthy Schools

By Richard Romano
Published: July 18, 2012

Green Clean Schools is a national initiative that promotes “green cleaning” in schools—that is, school cleaning processes that use substances not harmful to student health or the environment. Says the Web site:
A green cleaning program goes beyond chemical and equipment choices. It includes policies, procedures, training and shared responsibility efforts that minimize the impact of cleaning materials on the health of building occupants and protect the environment as a whole.
Our friends at Unisource have supported this initiative since 2006 by sponsoring The Quick and Easy Guide to Green Cleaning in Schools hard copy primer.
This publication contains approachable, digestible information that school nurses, teachers, parents, administrators and other school stakeholders can take to their school board to support the implementation of green cleaning programs.  The guide also contains a variety of content covering everything from why green cleaning is important to choosing green products, and includes a Featured Products database and a Distributors Center allowing school administrators to locate sources of green cleaning products.
Perhaps more importantly, the guide has been used by the Healthy Schools Campaign to push for “green clean” legislation across the country.
