Apple Customers Are Older Than You Think
If you've been to an Apple store, the premise of this article from MarketWatch is not a surprise. Apple's csutomers are older than most realize when measured by the amount that they spend. Apple has conquered computer user interface issues for most everyone no matter their age. And we know that the easier it is, the more dependent we become on them.
Kauffman Index of Startup Activity
The Kauffman Foundation supports the study of entrepreneurial activity in the US, and publishes many resources about the topic. In this latest report they claim that more small businesses created this past year than at any time in the last 20 years.
Their analysis of their startup activity index indicates a rise for the first time in 2010. Fewer young people (20 to 34) are starting businesses, representing about 25% of the startups, when nearly 20 years ago they were about one-third. They've been replaced by those in the 55 to 64 age range. Many of these workers use their savings earned over their careers to start businesses, and expect to work longer than others of that age did in the past.
It's a fascinating report, and there are many other insights on their site. New businesses need promotion assistance more than existing businesses. While they might be risky to work with in terms of credit and other factors, these entrepreneurs rely on resources that allow them to maximize their time devoted to business creation and development. They seek businesses who have knowledge and capabilities that can guide them to the best use of their finances. Be sure to allocate some time cultivating this market for the long term.
