Change in Management at HP Graphics Solutions Business

HP recently had a unpublicized change in management in its Graphic Arts business with the retirement of SVP Chris Morgan. Senior Editor Cary Sherburne spoke with Stephen Nigro, who has rejoined the group as Global Business Leader for Graphics Solutions and Inkjet.

After serving for more than three years as Senior Vice President of HP’s Graphics Solutions global business unit, Chris Morgan has retired, according to the company. Stephen Nigro, who had been running HP’s desktop inkjet business, returns to the Graphics Solutions Business while still retaining his responsibility for HP’s desktop inkjet business. I spoke with Stephen over the holidays to gain an understanding of what the HP Graphics Solutions management structure now looks like and Nigro’s expectations for 2013.

As our readers likely remember, last May HP merged its printing, computing and graphics solutions businesses under the leadership of Todd Bradley. In the new organizational structure, Nigro still reports to Bradley.  Now reporting to him in the Graphics Solutions business are Sumeer Chandra, Vice President, Worldwide Strategy and Market Development for graphics; as well as Alon Bar-Shany, Aurelio Maruggi and Xavier Garcia, vice presidents and general managers of the Indigo, production inkjet and wide format businesses respectively. Jan Reicher remains the Vice President and General Manager, Graphics Solutions Business, Americas, responsible for field implementation of all graphic solutions products in the Americas, including production inkjet, Indigo, Scitex and DesignJet, along with associated software solutions and services.

“The graphics business was created as a formal business unit inside HP in 2005,” explains Nigro, “and I led that effort, running the business through 2008 when I took on the challenge of the inkjet business for the consumer and office markets.“  Nigro also explains that due to its specialized nature, the Graphic Solutions Business has not seen much change as a result of its integration into the mainstream PC and printing businesses. “Where the change has been most substantial,” he adds, “is in the go-to-market strategy that allows us to present one face to the customer for PCs and printers in the enterprise.”
