R.R. Donnelley To Convert First Goss Universal 70 In Europe To Heatset Production

Press release from the issuing company

Nantes, France - R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company's existing Goss UniversalÅ 70 press at York will be converted to shaftless drives by Goss and then relocated to a new facility in Knaresborough, Northern England for heatset production. "The move to heatset production was a strategic decision for R.R. Donnelley to allow us to produce directories in full color," according to John Walker, manufacturing director at R.R. Donnelley, Knaresborough, UK. "To achieve that goal, we decided to convert our Universal 70 press to full heatset shaftless production, with Goss providing a project managed turnkey package," he adds. The two four-high towers and 2:3:3 folder will be shipped to Goss' Nantes, France facility later this year for conversion to shaftless operation and then reconfigured as a two web heatset operation in the new facility during summer 2001. Shane Lancaster, Goss senior vice president and general manager UK, states, "We are pleased to be involved in this major project for R.R. Donnelley, which will make this site the first heatset Universal 70 press in Europe. We are specialists in press reconfigurations, upgrades and press relocations such as this one." "We expect that this first heatset Universal 70 press in Europe will be a springboard for further success for the Universal 70 in semi-commercial production," adds Eric Normand, senior vice president and general manager, Goss France. About 25 percent of all Goss UniversalÅ presses worldwide have heatset capability.
