Rexam - Economical Microporous Paper Works in Piezo and Thermal Ink Jet Printers

Press release from the issuing company

SOUTH HADLEY, MA, Rexam Image Products, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of coated paper, film and specialty substrates for digital imaging systems, today announced the addition of a new universal semi-gloss photorealistic paper to its line of Magic(TM) brand ink jet media for wide format printers. DMPS EDEN is designed to dry instantaneously, allowing users the freedom to handle or laminate the paper immediately after it has been printed, making it ideal for rush print jobs. The product can be overlaminated with most cold laminates and low-temperature hot laminates. While not intended for outdoor use, the non-resin-coated microporous photopaper is remarkably resistant to occasional or accidental water exposure. The 7-mil paper has the look and feel of a resin-coated sheet, without the premium price. Formulated for most general-purpose graphic imaging applications in thermal or piezo wide format ink jet printers, DMPS EDEN is a semi-gloss version of the soon-to-be-released, resin-coated, high-gloss product, called DMPDQ-G. The current offering can be used on the Epson 9000, Mutoh 4000 and 6000 series, Kodak 3038 and other wide format, water-based piezo printers with pigment-based and dye-based inks. The material is also compatible with thermal dye and pigment-based ink jet printers such as the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet(TM), Encad NovaJet(TM) and ColorSpan(TM) series wide format roll-fed devices. "To this point, users have not been able to use pigmented inks with any of the existing Rexam photo grades, and DMPS EDEN provides an economical solution for users who need to produce glossy photorealistic images that won't fade like dye-based prints," said Dan Halkyard, marketing manager for display media at Rexam Image Products. "We had been lacking a glossy or semi-gloss photograde for the high-growth piezo printer market. DMPS EDEN is our first entrant which utilizes microporous technology, allowing for a semi-gloss photographic surface and compatibility with a wide range of next-generation piezo printers that use either dye or pigmented inks." Rexam has developed custom ICC color profiles for DMPS EDEN, enabling users to quickly and conveniently color calibrate their output taking into account their specific set of digital printing variables, including ink, printer and RIP. ICC color profiles for DMPS EDEN and other selected Magic ink jet media can be obtained at the Rexam Magic web site (www.magicinkjet.com).
