Ennis Reports 3Q Results, Acquisitions Help Boost Sales 40%

Ennis Business Forms, Inc. (NYSE: EBF) today reported operating results for the third quarter ended November 30, 2000. Net sales amounted to $57,688,000 compared to $41,173,000 for the same period last year, an increase of 40.1%. Net earnings for the quarter amounted to $4,023,000 or $.25 per diluted share, compared to $3,960,000, or $.24 per diluted share for the corresponding period last year, an increase of 1.6%. Per share earnings computations were based on 16,270,876 shares for the quarter compared to 16,287,986 shares for the prior period. For the nine months ended November 30, 2000, net sales amounted to $159,557,000 compared to $118,996,000 for the same period last year, an increase of 34.1%. Net earnings for the nine months amounted to $11,662,000 or $.72 per diluted share, compared to $11,099,000 or $.68 per diluted share for the corresponding period last year, an increase of 5.1%. Per share earnings computations were based on 16,239,279 shares for the nine months compared to 16,267,266 shares for the prior period. The increase in net sales in both the third quarter and nine months ended November 30, 2000 resulted from our newly acquired businesses, Adams McClure L.P. and American Forms, Inc., both acquired in November 1999 and Northstar Computer Forms, Inc. acquired in June 2000. The increase in net earnings in the third quarter when compared to the same period last year is mainly attributable to our acquisition of Northstar Computer Forms. The increase in net earnings in the nine months ended November 30, 2000 when compared to the same period last year is mainly attributable to the contributions of the Forms Solutions Group.
