Press release from the issuing company

KEHL, GERMANY -- 12th September 2000 -- DALiM Software GmbH, a leading supplier of prepress workflow and production technology, today announces its support of Mac OS X, Apple's next-generation operating system. DALiM Software will work on development of the Linux-compatible SWiNG workflow systems and future generations of software specifically for Mac OS X. "We are very happy to kick off development of a next generation of expert prepress technology by DALiM Software", explains Carol Werle, DALiM Software chief executive officer. "The speed and flexibility of the high-performance Mac OS X platform is a perfect fit with our technology and a logical progression for us." "The potential of SWiNG and other future product development on the Mac OS X platform is exciting news for our company," views Charles Blanchard, president of Blanchard Systems, DALiM's primary distributor in the U.S. "The Macintosh is ubiquitous in the prepress industry and it is important that we provide native solutions for it. The combination of the powerful Mac OS X platform and DALiM Software applications will be extremely popular." "Mac OS X will amaze professionals with its state-of-the-art technology, exquisite Aqua interface, and unparalleled power," said Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We are thrilled to welcome DALiM to the Mac platform and look forward to having SWiNG and future generations of software available for Mac OS X." SWiNG is a unique family of pre-configured "plug-and-play" workflow automation software with full PDF 1.3/PDF-X support. Each SWiNG package uses specific tools from the powerful and comprehensive DALiM Software's award-winning TWiST workflow software. SWiNG gives companies the capability to acquire the powerful functionality of high-end workflow systems at an entry-level price in order to automatically normalize and process prepress files and prepare data for output. Currently Linux compatible SWiNG is available on both SGI and SUN platforms. At present PC and MAC client compatibility is X emulation enabled. US Premiere: "BESTColor Designer Edition" at Seybold 2000 BEST Software Inc., a solutions provider for the printing and publishing market, unveiled its new solution "BESTColor Designer Edition" for the Mac-OS at Seybold 2000. The software allows Apple Macintosh users to generate true-color proofs using commercially-available inkjet printers. BEST Software Inc., whose Windows solutions (BESTColor Medium, XL, XXL and Laser) enjoy an excellent reputation and represent the de facto standard on the market, is now catering to the wishes of Mac users who have long since been clamoring for a pure Macintosh edition. Further versions for Mac-OS are in the pipeline. BESTColor Designer Edition is a PostScript RIP solution with integrated color management based on the ICC standard, which enables true-color printing on commercially-available inkjet printers (background information: inkjet technology has caught on in the prepress stage, since it is stable and produces professional quality with low investment and running costs). Printers can be connected with BESTColor Designer Edition via either the network (AppleTalk) or directly via a local connection (USB). The software supports PostScript files (composite or separated), TIFF in RGB or CMYK, PDF 1.3 and EPS files. In spite of the increasing number of Macintosh networks with integrated Windows servers, internal studies reveal that the demand for a pure Mac-OS solution stands at more than 30%. Mac users regard the iMac as the ideal computer for a RIP solution, since it represents a cost-effective entry-level product. The recommended retail price for BESTColor Designer Edition is US$ 699,- excluding VAT. The software will be available from specialist outlets in 3Q 2000. The printers supported by the software include Canon, Epson and Hewlett-Packard.
