Tufco Technologies: New Capital Investments for Wiping Products

Press release from the issuing company

GREEN BAY, WI (JUNE 27, 2002)—Tufco Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: TFCO), today announced new capital equipment investments for its contract manufacturing business located in Green Bay, WI. Michele Corrigan, Vice President-Sales and Marketing for Contract Manufacturing states, "This new equipment will enhance our capabilities across a number of markets and will allow us to bid competitively for business previously not available to us. It is particularly supportive of the ever growing disposable nonwovens markets." These nonwovens are the fabrics used in a variety of disposable wipes used in markets including household cleaning, personal care, baby care, industrial and medical markets. - The major addition is a new PCMC Clipper Series wet wipe production line that has the capability to convert nonwovens by adding solutions to make a variety of wet wipe folded products. The new line is modular, with the ability to run both short and long production runs at high speeds with quick changeovers. Its versatility also includes variable sheet counts as well as allowance for different types of folded wipes creating the flexibility that has become part of the Tufco tradition of making specialty products for consumer companies who service multiple markets. - Also as part of its continuing commitment to production of specialty wet wipes, the company has reconfigured its capabilities to allow it to print nonwovens with solvent inks. Along with a corona treatment system on the press, solvent inks are receptive to nonwovens and films improving clarity and laminations. And, adds Corrigan, "The addition of solvent inks is critical in the nonwovens printing market. It assures non-smear and rub-resistant printing of customers’ brand information." -Tufco continues to improve and expand its folding technologies so that wiping products can be flow wrapped, cross-cut, inter-folded or processed in multiple other configurations for baby wipes, household cleaning cloths, facial, cleansing and other disposable products. Tufco Technologies’ success in contract manufacturing of wiping products was one factor in the company’s reestablishing its headquarters in Green Bay, moving back from Dallas in February. "Quality has also played a primary role in our success," says Lou LeCalsey, President and CEO. "And flexibility is a key to our customer-partner relationships." Tufco is ISO (International Standards Org.) Certified 9001:2000 for documented continuous quality improvement at its Green Bay facility. Tufco provides diversified contract manufacturing and specialty printing services, manufactures and distributes business imaging paper products, and distributes paint sundry products used in home improvement projects. The company has manufacturing operations in Wisconsin, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
