NEW YORK -- April 23, 2002 -- Oce Printing Systems USA, a leader in digital document management and delivery technology, delivers on the promise of open systems support with the ability to use electronic input from any vendor on any platform for truly seamless digital workflow. As convergence drives new applications to commercial printers and transaction data centers, Oce DocSetter software helps customers do more with fewer resources even across diverse multi-vendor environments where PC, mainframe and Macintosh computers coexist. With the general availability of the new Oce DocSetter solution, the market gains an advanced tool for scanning, editing and cleansing hardcopy documents destined for digital workflow. Commercial printers, service bureaus and in-plant print shops gain superior capabilities for preparing complex documents. The software's impressive openness supports over 80 file formats, including TIFF, PDF, PostScript and JPEG, and Oce DocSetter bridges analog-to-digital and monochrome-to-color applications regardless of origin. For environments involving pre-existing DigiPathTM workflows, Oce DPconnect provides a direct print path from DigiPath and proprietary Xerox DocuTech job ticketing to Oce PRISMA document management and delivery architecture. This connection opens the door to broad vendor-independent functionality. DPconnect honors DocuTech job ticket parameters by converting them to a format that PRISMA can supply to the complete line of Oce cut-sheet and continuous feed printers. "With DocSetter and DPconnect, Oce continues to break down the technical barriers to a running profitable printing business. These products and the new PRISMA version 3 enhancements give our customers the freedom of choice that has made Oce famous. We understand that customers want to choose the best printing products for their needs, and the PRISMA architecture is designed to accommodate this need with seamless support for a multitude of Oce, Xerox and IBM printing products," said Carl Joachim, vice president of marketing for Oce Printing Systems USA, Inc. "DocSetter and DPconnect are the latest demonstration of our commitment to open systems, and these new products strengthen Oce's position as a complete provider of digital solutions for mixed environments." Oce DocSetter brings many advanced and powerful features to Oce PRISMA architecture, including quality-enhancing make-ready capabilities like image sizing and cropping. Users can import hardcopy elements such as signatures or photos from any TWAIN-compliant scanner. Materials that might have been sent out to a third party for digitizing can be handled in-house at less cost. Commercial printers can now accept and make ready books, original masters, surveys, engineering drawings, photos, signatures and other components needed for digital documents. In the past, operations unable to accommodate such materials were excluded from certain applications and customers. A More Functional Alternative to DigiPath With Oce DocSetter, scanned images can be easily manipulated for maximum quality, and users gain better image control and flexibility. After scanning into Oce DocSetter, materials can be stored as a library of images, sent to another Oce PRISMA server to be included in applications, or routed to any formatting product for layout without requiring changes to existing applications. Timesaving Oce DocSetter gives customers a powerful alternative to DigiPath for document manipulation, with greater functionality such as color support, broader system compatibility and more file types. Oce DocSetter also supports a wide range of devices, including the Macintosh systems typically used for document design. The software integrates smoothly with the Oce PRISMAproduction POD system and Oce DemandStream printers, increasing overall productivity and output flexibility. At ON DEMAND, Oce DocSetter is used to enhance images in several applications and data streams to show the versatility and openness of Oce solutions. Oce DocSetter software gives users a further option to interface with the Oce ScanStation 650, a new Oce scanning product, and a technology demonstration of the ScanStation 650 will also be shown at ON DEMAND.
