Houston Printer DiscPro Launches Book Drive to Support Childhood Literacy

Press release from the issuing company

Houston, TX - Literacy is one of the most powerful indicators of a child’s future success, yet far too many children living in poverty in the United States and around the world lack access to books. In Houston, thanks to programs like the ‘Literacy by 3 initiative,’ increasing numbers of students are meeting the basic reading standards set by the state. To support this continued progress, DiscPro is launching its inaugural book drive to put more books in the hands of children who may not have had a book of their own before.

The DiscPro book drive kicks off on November 28 and runs through December 2, with a goal of collecting 500 new or gently-used children’s books appropriate for readers in the 6th grade or younger. Both English and Spanish language books are welcome. Community members can get involved by donating their books at DiscPro’s facility at 339 Greens Landing Dr.; Houston, TX from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. After you donate, update your social media status and use the #booksforgood hashtag and encourage your friends to get involved.

DiscPro’s printing technology partner Kodak is supporting the book drive with logistical and marketing expertise as part of the company’s Print.For.Good initiative, which celebrates print’s vital role in our everyday lives. To kick-start the book drive efforts, Kodak is donating 60 copies of the book from designer and children’s book author Tad Carpenter. This is the first book drive in a series of efforts that Kodak will sponsor worldwide.

“DiscPro is passionate about print and its vital role in fostering literacy. Since our founding, we have worked to help some of the most vulnerable communities in need of a helping hand. We’re proud to be able to do our part to promote childhood literacy and help break the cycle of poverty,” said Dale Morris, President, DiscPro.

DiscPro will begin distributing books in early December to educators and organizations serving children, including the Books Between Kids Organization in the Houston area and to Casa Angelina an orphanage in Guatemala, which is a non-profit group dedicated to changing the lives of orphans in developing countries by providing self-esteem and value through education, housing, food and healthcare.
