Swiss Printing Industries Association Selects Enfocus as Country Standard

Press release from the issuing company

Ghent, Belgium, May 28th 2002 - Under the name "VSD Certified PDF", the Swiss Printing Industries Association (Verband der Schweizer Druckindustrie: VSD) has declared Enfocus software and the PDF data format to be the official standards for data exchange and workflows in the Swiss printing industry. In doing so, the Association confirmed its trust in the reliability of the Belgian software company's Certified PDF technology, which is used to check, correct and certify the integrity of files in the popular data format. The VSD is recommending the use of validated profiles based on Enfocus Certified PDF technology for production of print jobs with normal colour separation in CMYK and for jobs with special (e.g. Pantone) colours for sheetfed, web and newspaper printing applications. As printing and prepress companies shift from traditional film-based to CTP Computer-to-Film) and CTP (Computer-to-Plate) workflows, acceptance of customer files has created the potential for delays and bottom-line risk due to file preparation errors. Improperly set up files can impact production and profitability, while leaving unclear the associated responsibility. The printing industry uses file-checking procedures to recognize and correct customer file errors early on, before they can affect production. In this regard, Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) has proven itself well-suited for use in data transmission for printing applications ˆ provided that file integrity has been verified by the document creator with the appropriate software.
