June 4, 2004 (Des Moines, IA) Acme Printing Co., Inc. has unveiled a new service designed to improve communications and information flow with its customers. The Local Delivery Notification System (LDNS) uses state-of-the-art wireless technology to alert customers of the local delivery of materials. Within minutes of a delivery the customer can receive an email detailing the delivery including: description, quantity, purchase order number, delivery address, date, time and the name of the person who signed for it. “We are constantly listening to our customers to learn how we can improve our products and services.” explains Jerry Miller, President of Acme Printing. “We identified that many of our customers need timely information about the delivery of their orders.” Miller tasked the Acme Printing team to come up with a solution that could meet this need. “Our goal was to meet the customers need yet develop a solution integrated with our existing processes.” states Chuck Stansbury, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, who was team leader on the project. Stansbury assembled a cross-functional team of Acme Printing employees to develop the solution. “The system we developed not only met this goal but solved some other problems along the way, further increasing the efficiency of our internal operations.” The LDNS is built from existing off-the-self hardware and software coupled with custom computer programming developed by Acme Printing staff. “To the best of our knowledge, this is the only system of its kind in the printing industry.” reports Stansbury. In 2002 Acme Printing launched iServices, a web site providing customers a number of tools including the ability to browse orders in progress and track UPS shipments online. “Good communication with our customers makes their job easier. This is a natural extension of the iServices capabilities – to push this information to the customer rather than making a phone call or having to log on and look it up.” says Miller. “Our people are very proud of this innovation; it’s the kind of thing we are known for.” Acme Printing Co.
