Kernow Coatings Ltd, a research-based manufacturing company, has been awarded £380,000 from the European Regional Development Fund in a project designed to create jobs, increase efficiency, and advance technology.  Kernow Coatings manufactures and distributes a wide range of narrow and large format coated films supporting some of the world’s leading brands of print media.  Kernow Coatings has operations spread across three locations in Cornwall, UK as well as a subsidiary in the USA.   

The project, valued at £960,000, is an investment in a new coating machine designed to reduce product development cycle time and to increase manufacturing capacity, enabling the company to deliver innovative products reliably for customers. 

“Kernow Coatings celebrated 40 years of innovation at the end of 2014,” said Peter Newell, Director of Kernow Coatings Ltd.  “We have enjoyed significant growth over the years and particularly in the past ten.  With this new coating technology, made possible in part by the ERDF, Kernow Coatings looks forward to even greater growth by expanding its product lines and its markets.”

Kernow Coatings exports a substantial proportion of sales to North America.  The ERDF investment has assisted in making a commercial case for investment in Cornwall, safeguarding and creating employment in Penryn.

The European Regional Development Fund is managed locally by The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme as part of the European economic regeneration programme for the region.
