New eTextbooks help librarians supply core reading at any time

Press release from the issuing company

From today, CABI is offering eTextbooks to academic institutions and university libraries via eBook Collections, the ProQuest platform that CABI uses to give customers access to eBooks. eBooks will be available in both HTML and PDF, meaning users can access eTextbooks at any time online with the ability to electronically annotate pages and print when needed.

Launched in July 2015, CABI now has 44 handpicked textbooks available in eBook format across its core subject areas, including agriculture, animal and veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, horticulture, human health, soil sciences and tourism.

These titles are available as individual titles, under an adoption purchase model based on numbers of students. By purchasing these eTextbooks, academic institutions and university libraries can offer their students access to key textbooks for the duration of their course, making core reading available at any time.

Clodagh Corcoran, Head of Publishing Sales at CABI, says: “CABI’s book publishing programme plays a core role in our mission to enhance research in applied life sciences, and leisure tourism. The launch of our e-Textbook offering is in direct response to our users, by delivering premium information to them in the format of their choice. As an ever-increasing number of institutions and students adopt digital course materials, e-Textbooks are likely to form an increasingly important part of our books offering.”

Rachel Cutts, eBooks Product Manager at CABI says: “We are thrilled to be able to offer textbooks in a way that enables libraries and institutions to put key course material directly into the hands of students. This is CABI’s first eTextbook offering that provides site-wide licenses and flexible models for core titles on our list.”

More titles will be available as they are published later this year.
