Wyndeham wins Argos contract and sets up new bindery on former Artisan site

Press release from the issuing company

LONDON - Wyndeham Group announces it has won a three-year multi-million pound contract to provide binding services for Argos’ UK catalogues and Christmas Gift guides. The work will be produced by Wyndeham Binders, a new bindery business which will operate from the site of the former Artisan Press.

Wyndeham has also purchased two of Artisan’s Muller Martini Corona C18 perfect binding lines including the 2012 line which is considered to be the single most productive binding machine operating in the UK market.

The Argos contract requires Wyndeham to bind approximately 12 million UK catalogues each year together with its Christmas Gift Guides.

Wyndeham Binders will operate from a 3,800 sq.m. purpose-built facility in Leicester. The new business is expected to employ up to 48 staff at peak production times.

With nine Muller Martini Corona systems and four other lines, Wyndeham now has the largest perfect binding capability of any UK printer.

Paul Utting, Chief Executive Officer at Wyndeham Group, said: “I’m delighted that we have won this prestigious Argos contract. It was apparent that no single UK operation had sufficient capacity to produce this work at such short notice. We expect Wyndeham Binders to win new customers and to provide the rest of the Group with additional capacity to fulfil large projects.”

Dominic Pemberton, Head of Publications & New Media at Argos, said: “We’ve been hugely impressed with Wyndeham’s speed and dedication to provide us with a UK-based binding solution at such short notice. Their ability to quickly establish a new facility in Leicester, invest in key equipment and employ many of Artisan’s skilled staff, has given us the confidence to commit to Wyndeham for the long-term.”
