Premier Paper stages Washington Branch Open Evening

Press release from the issuing company

The Premier Paper Group, the UK’s largest independent paper merchant with a nationwide network of regional stock holding branches, recently staged a customer open evening at its Washington Branch in the North East, to mark its success and expansion over the past two years.

The event was held on 5th June, with over 200 customers in attendance, and some 16 suppliers exhibiting their products including: Sappi, Moorim, International Paper, Mondi, Portucel, Lecta, SAM UK, Tullis Russell, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper, Stora Enso and ArjoWiggins.

The entertainment for the evening included roulette & blackjack tables, a racing simulator and also Britain’s got Talent finalist David Penn, who performed some of his close up magic. A variety of competitions and challenges were carried out on the night with many prizes being given out to customers.

Food was also prepared, cooked and served onsite by a local caterer, which included a hog roast to feed those attending. Drinks were provided by a local brewery Durham Brewery (including three of their guest ales).

Since opening in January 2012, the Washington branch, which services customers across the North East of England, Cumbria, Dumfries and Galloway; has enjoyed continued growth. Two new members of staff also join the team to help meet the growing service demands of an increasing customer base and order volumes.

The new larger premises will enable Premier to hold up to 900 pallets of paper locally, supporting its commitment to deliver next-day and to offer a same-day delivery service on its locally stocked lines. Customers also have access to a further 20,000 tonnes of papers which are held throughout the Premier branch network, all available for next-day delivery.

Commenting on the success of the Washington Branch over the past two years, its Sales Manager Mike Banks said, “In each of our 16 branches we tailor our stock holding to meet local demand. The move to new larger premises and the additional resources in the North East will allow us to offer more choice to customers across the region; together with greater service flexibility and product availability, in order to support future growth.”

The move will also include an increase in Premier’s local delivery fleet; the merchant will have six vehicles and drivers operating throughout the region further supported by Premier’s national fleet of around a hundred trucks.
