Chowan University Graphic Communications Student Announced as the NAPCO “Best of Show Student Award” Winner in the 2013 PICA Awards

Charlotte, NC - The Printing Industry of the Carolinas (PICA) has announced that Sarah Davis, Burke VA is this year ‘s NAPCO “Best of Show Student Award” winner in the 2013 PICA Awards Competition. Sarah’s entry, “Photography Portfolio,” won Best of Category in the ‘Digitally Imaged: Toner’ division. Her entry was then selected from all the Best of Category division winners, which compromised entries from six colleges and universities from across the Carolinas. Sarah will receive a $500 scholarship from the PICA Foundation. She and her parents will be honored guests at the 2013 PICA Awards Banquet, held April 26 in Concord, North Carolina. The PICA Awards competition is one of the largest printing contests in the nation.

Sarah’s “Photography Portfolio’ was the final project in her Digital Photography class. The requirements of the book were to meet the technical specifications for accurate color reproduction and illustrate various aspects of photography.

Production of the book utilized the departments newest digital press, the Xerox/FUJI J75 and state of the art EFI/Fiery front-end. 

A panel of out of state judges with extensive experience in printing and print production was brought in to examine the work. Each entry was judged on its own merit in a category with similar printed pieces.

Started in 1953, The Krueger School of Graphic Communications is celebrating it’s sixty-first year of developing the talents of young people for placement into the graphic communications and
