Metrix Publishes Offset Ganging Paper, Inspired by WhatTheyThink's Andy Tribute

Press release from the issuing company

Edmonds, WA – Metrix Software, developer of Metrix®, the intelligent, automated job planning and imposition system, announced today that they had published a paper on the unusually high profits of offset using Metrix, inspired by Andy Tribute’s article “Offset – Technology for the Future of USA’s Printing!” (WTT, 2/4/13).

The paper, now available at www.metrixsoftware.com/doc/Secret.pdf is entitled “Hungry for Profits? Secrets to thriving when it’s tough just surviving,” has been enthusiastically received by industry analysts and customers alike.

Rohan Holt, President of Metrix Software, said, “We’ve often been lonely voices in the industry, so Andy Tribute’s comments were a welcome endorsement of what we’ve been trying to get across since 2004 when Metrix was launched – that offset ganging is a game-changer and an incredible revenue- and profit-making machine.”

The Metrix paper, quoting Tribute, says, “‘…sophisticated ganging programs predominantly that from Metrix Software, is used to plan a range of different jobs onto the same sheet…. One gang-printing customer with multiple VLF presses and a web-to-print front end reportedly has executed 500 make-readies for a total of 12,000 jobs in a single day.’ Tribute notes that the only types of web-to-print jobs offset cannot handle are variable printing or run lengths of fewer than 100 copies. However, he also notes that ‘The revenue and profit that this offset approach can give is vastly more than can be done with any digital printing technology’ [emphasis added].”

The paper provides a wealth of information, gleaned from the experiences of Metrix customers – that is, those who were willing to speak publicly about it. For instance, Laserline, a Berlin B2B printer servicing over 200,000 customers worldwide through its web storefront, stated that Metrix saves two full hours of production time every day, delivers a 10-20% savings in paper stock, and eliminates up to 30 minutes of guillotine setup time on every press sheet.

The paper is full of other anecdotes and examples of how Metrix rationalizes the production apparatus and generates higher profits, for many different types of printers. “Tribute has hopefully started a new conversation about how to maximize existing equipment,” said Holt, “and how to thrive in this extremely challenging economy.”
