PLM buys Kodak VersaMark JetBlack printing system

Press release from the issuing company

TORONTO, March 25 - PLM Group today announced it has purchased Kodak's VersaMark JetBlack system, a new high quality imaging technology designed to deliver high-speed black-and-white production for the print-on- demand and direct mail markets. The JetBlack system will add to PLM's market leading inkjet capacity and is fully compatible with PLM's off-line inkjet imaging and finishing capabilities available through Mailer Magic. JetBlack will be installed in PLM's new facility dedicated to digital imaging and complement PLM's product offering in this area. Through Mailer Magic and its 1:1 division, PLM Group offers a broad range of services focused on targeted communications. These services include in-house data management and mail preparation, inkjet and laser imaging, intelligent and video-match inserting and customized, multi-module printing and mailing systems that can fold, apply remoistenable glue, pattern perforate, form envelope pockets, time-cut, slit, and tip-on products. "With a throughput capacity of 500 feet per minute, the JetBlack system will set new productivity standards for continuous form printing," said Ray Raiskums - Marketing Manager for Digital Services. "The system utilizes Scitex's, (now Kodak's), 9" high speed 600DPI printing technology which Mailer Magic pioneered in Canada. The combination of JetBlack's low consumable costs and high-speed is the one-two punch we needed to enter the continuous form market. Furthermore, the learning curve for PLM will be relatively short, given our experience with this technology." Added Raiskums: "JetBlack adds size and scope to our product offering; with it, PLM can now deliver high speed variable imaging and capture market share in the highly competitive print-on-demand market." "The key for us was JetBlack's flexible production platform," said Marc Fortier - Executive Vice-President Digital Services. "The modular platform will allow us to reconfigure the equipment rapidly on a shift to shift basis delivering high speed duplex continuous forms on one shift, and highly personalized self-mailers on the next shift. JetBlack gives us a point of differentiation in a market where most of the solutions are perfect substitutes for each other. We have purchased one of the first Jet Black Systems in North-America. It is a technology we know very well and are taking to market with great enthusiasm."
