Art Lindauer Receives PIA Education Award of Excellence

Press release from the issuing company

Printing Industries of America is pleased to announce Art Lindauer, instructor, Venice High School, Los Angeles, California, is the Academic Recipient of the 2012 Education Award of Excellence.

The Education Awards of Excellence were established by Printing Industries of America as a way to recognize that the success of graphic arts education and training programs depends heavily on the motivation, enthusiasm, and leadership of those dedicated to teaching.

Art has applied for and received numerous California State grants to upgrade his print shop. Most recently, he received $3 million from the State Proposition ID CTE Grant-$1.5 million for equipment and $1.5 million matching funds from the Los Angeles Unified School District for renovation. This application required long hours of researching printing equipment and speaking to experts in the printing industry to determine what equipment would be necessary to provide his students with a state-of-the-art printing facility.

Additionally, Art has started an after-school club through a 21st Century Learning Grant between Venice High School and the Venice Boys & Girls Club. He is also very active promoting his students and instructional programs with trade and industry groups.

He is in the finishing stages of instituting PrintED, a national accreditation program, based on industry standards, for graphic communications courses of study at the secondary and post-secondary levels, administered by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF). Once this process is complete, Venice High will be the only high school in the state of California to offer this accreditation process for its students.

Art will be presented with the 2012 Printing Industries of America Education Award of Excellence at the 2012 GASC/Printing Industries of America Teacher's Conference at GRAPH EXPO in Chicago on Sunday, October 7.
