Komori Announces Drupa Press Line Up; Focuses On Perfecting The Pressroom

Press release from the issuing company

(March 1, 2004 Tokyo, Japan) From May 6 to May 19 in Dusseldorf, Komori will electrify the printing industry at DRUPA 2004 with a compelling display of technology and performance. Freedom of Impression’ — Komori’s theme for DRUPA 2004 — affirms our commitment to cooperation through open architecture, our goal to maximize user choice. Powered by partnerships with leading prepress makers, Komori’s DRUPA show comprehensively addresses our industry’s most important trends — the digital workflow and integrated production systems. Deploying eight presses in seven zones across a 2,000 square meter stand in Hall 15, Komori is presenting solutions that will transform the future of print. We are confident that this thinking will resonate with printers worldwide. ‘Perfecting Your Printroom’ keynotes our DRUPA 2004 demonstration of the value added printing potential of two-sided printing presses (both dedicated one-pass machines and reversible perfectors). The print quality and speed of Komori’s new perfecting cylinder, designed to solve the issues of scuffing and marking in two-sided mode, will be clear to all. Featuring our most advanced printing systems, ‘Perfecting Your Printroom’ develops the ‘Printroom 2000’ concept Komori presented at DRUPA 2000. The perfect Digital Smart Factory for our Perfecting Your Printroom idea — DoNet compatibility with CIP4/JDF + One-pass machines + High Value Added Printing — will take shape in the Komori stand. Komori is also spotlighting the extension of Lithrone S40 technologies to other Lithrone presses. The Lithrone S40 captured the ‘four crowns’ of industrial design – the Minister of Economy Trade and Industry Prize and the Good Design Award of Japan, the iF Design Award in Germany, and the GATF InterTech Technology Award in the US. The Komori stand will exhibit leading-edge presses and printing systems for the following 7 exhibition zones: • DoNet with JDF Production Management • Magazine and Commercial • Perfecting Theatre • General Printing • Carton Printing • Chambon Packaging Printing • Currency & Security Printing DoNet Zone The key to Komori’s DoNet is information--industry-standard information such as CIP4/JDF data; information organically linking the press to prepress and postpress systems, and data to optimize management decision-making. By providing an interface for accessing and controlling this information, DoNet integrates the latest digital technologies of Komori’s innovative partners. The printing business in the broadband age relies on communication over global digital networks where printing data flows 24/7. Networked printing facilities and high-speed data transmission are today’s norm. In the DoNet Zone, Komori will demonstrate our CIP4/JDF-driven digital workflow, color management system, production control system, and other prepress devices. Particularly noteworthy is the world’s first application of JDF data for web fold formats. Field Proven: K-Station CIP4/JDF Compliance CIP3 made setting ink presets with PPF data an established practice. However, the PPF format facilitates only one-way communication, and thus lacks support for feedback of production information from the presses. Now CIP4 enables two-way communication with a nextgeneration JDF dataflow, allowing data uploading to outside sites. The K-Station, Komori’s solution for integrated management of production data, was proven JDF-compliant and compatible with leading MIS systems in recent interoperability tests. These results point to a CIP4/JDF future. The DoNet Digital Network consists of a software suite for the total management of printingrelated information. It provides: • JDF/CIP4-driven digital production workflow from inquiry to final output • Visibility of production information • Print production optimization • Print standardization • Print-based color management All Exhibit Machines JDF-compliant All fully JDF-compliant, Komori presses exhibited at DRUPA and Komori’s JDF demonstrations will incorporate a selection of MIS interfaces. Within the DoNet zone at DRUPA, Komori also has stand-alone demonstration facilities for Komori’s press console; the Komori K-Station, which acts as the central hub for all job data; the KHS automatic de-inking and pre-inking system; the PDC-S Spectrodensitometer, and KColorProfiler, which unifies press and proofer color gamuts. Magazine and Commercial Printing Zone Komori five-color Lithrone S40SP dedicated perfector The Lithrone SP essence: A full-spectrum strategic machine for sheetfed quality with web production efficiency. A dedicated perfecting press offering high productivity and fast turnaround, the LS40SP eliminates the front/back quality variation inherent in the conventional convertible perfecting process. The Lithrone S40SP also increases production flexibility and simplifies prepress operations - as plate imposition is identical for both sides. The double-deck configuration of the SP optimizes printroom floor space – the press length of a 10-unit (5/5) SP measures only slightly more than a conventional five-color press. DRUPA 2004 marks the debut of the Lithrone S40SP (five-color, two-sided offset press), now incorporating many of the award-winning Lithrone S Series technologies. With its 13,000-sph maximum printing speed (15,000 sph on 4/4), the machine offers tremendous profit potential. The SP provides productivity 2 to 3 times that of a straight press as well as the efficiency needed to be competitive in the on-demand market of short runs and tight deadlines. Komori System 38S 16-page web offset press Outstanding ease of use and short-run competence make the System 38S Europe’s most popular 16-page web. It provides the world’s shortest changeover time through fully automated one-step register adjustment, color matching, fold adjustment and plate changing. Komori’s new KHS-AI with Advanced Intelligence has self-learning software that further reduces job changeover time, costs and workload. Capable of 60,000-iph operation, the System 38S has a new folder that handles a variety of products, including direct mail, advertising material, and magazines. As part of Komori’s JDF demonstration, the folder on the System 38S is set via JDF data transfer. Reduced power requirements and materials consumption contribute to eco-sensitive operation. Komori Perfecting Theatre Komori eight-color Lithrone S840P perfecting press The Lithrone S40P 40” press is engineered for printers who require the flexibility to print fourcolor two-sided work and the capability to add extra colors, such as specials or metallics, or coating to normal four-color jobs. The LS-840P incorporates all the award-winning design and technology features of the Lithrone S40 series and includes Komori’s unique double-size three-cylinder perfecting mechanism. This ensures the highest quality of reproduction on both sides of the sheet over the entire stock range, even at the maximum printing speed of 15,000 sph, which Komori is demonstrating at DRUPA. The perfecting mechanism itself transfers the sheet entirely stress-free, and air controls plus ceramic jackets on the second four impression cylinders assist in mark-free passage of the reversed sheet through to the delivery. Komori 10-color Lithrone 28P perfecting press DRUPA 2004 marks the debut of the 10-colour five/five reversible perfector. Redesigned to a higher standard for today’s needs, the Lithrone 26/28 Series now has extra automation options. The 28P utilizes Komori’s new and unique three-cylinder sheet-reversing mechanism for consistent and precise reversing on all stock types and thicknesses at maximum printing speeds. Equipped with Komori’s latest PQC control technology, including the KMS management system and KHS de-inking and pre-inking, the press achieves full job changeover, including changing 10 plates, in less than 10 minutes. Plus, reduced use of printing materials through enhanced efficiency and an improved Komorimatic for lower emissions. General Printing Zone Komori four-color SPICA 429P perfector The new SPICA convertible perfector asserts the performance potential of one-pass 2C/2C color perfecting as a highly competitive and flexible solution for entry-level four-color printers. Equipped with new CIP4-compliant devices and functions, the SPICA 29P offers a small footprint, space-saving configuration and excellent cost-performance results. Providing short-run, short-turnaround competence, SPICA is available in a variety of plate sizes.
