By providing an interface for accessing and controlling this information, DoNet integrates the latest digital technologies of Komori’s innovative partners. The printing business in the broadband age relies on communication over global digital networks where printing data flows 24/7. Networked printing facilities and high-speed data transmission are today’s norm. In the DoNet Zone, Komori will demonstrate our CIP4/JDF-driven digital workflow, color management system, production control system, and other prepress devices. Particularly noteworthy is the world’s first application of JDF data for web fold formats. Field Proven: K-Station CIP4/JDF Compliance CIP3 made setting ink presets with PPF data an established practice. However, the PPF format facilitates only one-way communication, and thus lacks support for feedback of production information from the presses. Now CIP4 enables two-way communication with a nextgeneration JDF dataflow, allowing data uploading to outside sites. The K-Station, Komori’s solution for integrated management of production data, was proven JDF-compliant and compatible with leading MIS systems in recent interoperability tests. These results point to a CIP4/JDF future. The DoNet Digital Network consists of a software suite for the total management of printingrelated information. Magazine and Commercial Printing Zone Komori five-color Lithrone S40SP dedicated perfector The Lithrone SP essence: A full-spectrum strategic machine for sheetfed quality with web production efficiency. A dedicated perfecting press offering high productivity and fast turnaround, the LS40SP eliminates the front/back quality variation inherent in the conventional convertible perfecting process. The Lithrone S40SP also increases production flexibility and simplifies prepress operations - as plate imposition is identical for both sides. The double-deck configuration of the SP optimizes printroom floor space – the press length of a 10-unit (5/5) SP measures only slightly more than a conventional five-color press. DRUPA 2004 marks the debut of the Lithrone S40SP (five-color, two-sided offset press), now incorporating many of the award-winning Lithrone S Series technologies. With its 13,000-sph maximum printing speed (15,000 sph on 4/4), the machine offers tremendous profit potential. The SP provides productivity 2 to 3 times that of a straight press as well as the efficiency needed to be competitive in the on-demand market of short runs and tight deadlines. Komori System 38S 16-page web offset press Outstanding ease of use and short-run competence make the System 38S Europe’s most popular 16-page web. It provides the world’s shortest changeover time through fully automated one-step register adjustment, color matching, fold adjustment and plate changing. Komori’s new KHS-AI with Advanced Intelligence has self-learning software that further reduces job changeover time, costs and workload. Capable of 60,000-iph operation, the System 38S has a new folder that handles a variety of products, including direct mail, advertising material, and magazines. As part of Komori’s JDF demonstration, the folder on the System 38S is set via JDF data transfer. Reduced power requirements and materials consumption contribute to eco-sensitive operation. Komori Perfecting Theatre Komori eight-color Lithrone S840P perfecting press The Lithrone S40P 40” press is engineered for printers who require the flexibility to print fourcolor two-sided work and the capability to add extra colors, such as specials or metallics, or coating to normal four-color jobs. The LS-840P incorporates all the award-winning design and technology features of the Lithrone S40 series and includes Komori’s unique double-size three-cylinder perfecting mechanism. This ensures the highest quality of reproduction on both sides of the sheet over the entire stock range, even at the maximum printing speed of 15,000 sph, which Komori is demonstrating at DRUPA. The perfecting mechanism itself transfers the sheet entirely stress-free, and air controls plus ceramic jackets on the second four impression cylinders assist in mark-free passage of the reversed sheet through to the delivery. Komori 10-color Lithrone 28P perfecting press DRUPA 2004 marks the debut of the 10-colour five/five reversible perfector. Redesigned to a higher standard for today’s needs, the Lithrone 26/28 Series now has extra automation options. The 28P utilizes Komori’s new and unique three-cylinder sheet-reversing mechanism for consistent and precise reversing on all stock types and thicknesses at maximum printing speeds. Equipped with Komori’s latest PQC control technology, including the KMS management system and KHS de-inking and pre-inking, the press achieves full job changeover, including changing 10 plates, in less than 10 minutes. Plus, reduced use of printing materials through enhanced efficiency and an improved Komorimatic for lower emissions. General Printing Zone Komori four-color SPICA 429P perfector The new SPICA convertible perfector asserts the performance potential of one-pass 2C/2C color perfecting as a highly competitive and flexible solution for entry-level four-color printers. Equipped with new CIP4-compliant devices and functions, the SPICA 29P offers a small footprint, space-saving configuration and excellent cost-performance results. Providing short-run, short-turnaround competence, SPICA is available in a variety of plate sizes. The 29-inch size is capable of printing B4x4 signatures, maximizing utilization of B2 full-size sheets. Its full complement of automated devices ensures short makeready and reduced production costs as well as a lighter task load for operators. Komori four-color Lithrone 20 Designed with the same double-size cylinder configuration as the larger Lithrone presses, the Lithrone 20 is packaged with an advanced press control system located over the delivery unit to minimize floor space requirements. Full digital workflow capabilities provide short overall printing production times through the use of CIP4/JDF data as well as quick color matching with the Pre-inking and Removing function. Komori New Lithrone 28 four-color 28" press More than 6,000 Lithrone 26/28 Series presses comprising 30,000 printing units have been installed since 1983. Consistently evolved to meet user needs, the redesigned Lithrone 28 offers higher performance and addresses today’s printer requirements, specifically the demand to achieve an even higher standard of quality. The New Lithrone 28 has a new ink fountain design, ultrasonic sheet doubling device, and special film on the surface of the plate cylinders. The ergonomic design of the press and control systems and the incorporation of the latest digital technologies make the press easier to operate. The Komorimatic dampening system provides additional ecological efficiencies, including alcohol-free printing. Multicolor unit configurations and an inline coater are available for value added printing. Carton Printing Zone Komori six-color Lithrone S40 with double delivery and coater The prize-winning Lithrone S40, specified for the carton production printer. Accommodating both light stock and heavy sheets up to 1.0mm, this LS-640 offers a range of value added printing options for packaging, cards, labels, and microflute. The press is equipped with Komori’s automatic nonstop feeder and double delivery for nonstop operation and is available with the Komori inline coating system for more value adding options, such as metallic and color coatings. Like the other Komori Lithrones at DRUPA, the Lithrone 640 is interfaced with Komori DoNet to support Komori’s JDF demonstrations, and is equipped with the Komori KHS De-inking and Preinking system. Komori Chambon Packaging is an industry area showing recent strong growth. Manufactured in France, Komori Chambon packaging presses offer the choice of offset and gravure printing with short makeready, low material wastage, and adaptability to a varied work mix. At DRUPA, Komori Chambon is showing a new variable-size rotary die-cutter and video demonstrations of their full product range. Securities Printing Currency and securities printing demands an extreme level of quality and consistency. Bank of Japan banknotes (yen banknotes) are printed on Komori presses and are known as the most difficult currency to counterfeit. Komori is Japan’s only manufacturer of currency printing presses. At DRUPA 2004, Komori Currency Technology will introduce — via panel and video displays and printing samples — prepress systems, offset currency printing presses, intaglio presses, numbering presses, security systems, and quality inspection units. Save the Children At major trade exhibits, Komori donates a part of our production to the charity Save the Children, printing posters, booklets, educational material and mail shots. In total, Komori is printing over 30 different jobs for Save the Children at DRUPA, using four different exhibition presses.
