Finishing system maker bielomatik has agreed to provide a specially adapted version of its roll-to-sheet cross-cutting technology for integration into Danish flexo printing machine builder TRESU’s new mid-web Flexo Innovator package printing / converting line. bielomatik’s cutting system enables high-speed cutting of B3 size substrates, without any tooling costs. It is one option on a new open-platform press that can be configured to include any combination of added-value converting processes, like rotary or flatbed die-cutting, in-line, according to the printer’s unique requirements. 

Key features include bielomatik’s Vacu stop air-injection transport system for mark-free sheet delivery from the point of cutting to stacking. This is ideal for conversion of thinner papers, which are more sensitive to contamination. Other features enable automatic size and material changes, on-the-fly removal of spliced sheets and waste, and automatic pile-changing. The cross-cutter also includes a single-sheet register system, ensuring precision register control. This system feeds real-time information to the operator through TRESU’s Management Information Software (MIS), allowing remedial action to be taken on-the-fly, as soon as deviations are discovered.

Two versions of the cutting system are available. One caters for thin paper, foil and films, ranging from 40m to 300gsm, while another caters for converted carton substrates from 60gsm to 600gsm. 

This bielomatik innovation ensures that waste is dramatically reduced. Only a few sheets of paper are used during a roll change, as the over-lay of old and new roll are accurately found by the cross-cutter. The sheeting system handles papers and foils from 400mm x 400mm to 1200mm x 1050mm. The roll-to-sheet concept enables printers of sheet-fed applications to maximise value by acquiring substrate raw materials in roll format. The unit is also available as an off-line system, which will be on display at the bielomatik drupa stand.

The Flexo Innovator is available in three width options, to suit a range of different applications. These include the FI 900, accommodating widths up to 900mm, the FI 1100 (widths up to 1100mm) and the FI 1300 (1300 mm).
