Evolution of Hohner DIGI-Finisher 8

Press release from the issuing company

The digital segment of the printing industry is booming and Hohner has taken notice! The industry has been faced with a trend of smaller runs that facilitate a need for increased flexibility in its production equipment. Timely recognition of this trend allowed Hohner Maschinenbau Gmbh/Germany to offer their customers, as early as 2003, a viable solution based on a cooperative partnership with MBO Folder.

In this ever-changing segment of the market, it became evident that through progressive adaptations, the DIGI-Finisher would also evolve. Trends and marketing requirements must also be met with maximum ease of use, as well as cost effectiveness, in order to allow the customer the highest level of productivity. These adaptations meant far more than just a simple face- lift for Drupa 2012. Rather, the new DIGI-Finisher 8 now encompasses many added- value features.

Optimized process control refines the overall networking between the MBO folder and the Hohner HSB 8.000 saddle binder. The HSB 8.000 upgraded configuration of the DIGI-Finisher allows for 8,000 cycles per hour in the saddle binder mode – an increase of 1,000 cycles per hour over the previous HSB 7.000 configuration. This new configuration also reduces empty cycles in the DIGI-Finisher mode; cost reduction through efficiency!

Always targeting further improvement of quality and ease of use, a new diagnostic tool has been incorporated which provides a list of all fault alarms on an informative touch screen. Moreover, the sensor-driven barcode system, included on all feeders as well as the cover feeder, has a positive impact on the quality assurance of the work in progress.

The new DIGI-Finisher configuration allows for an expanded format range. Maximum spine length is now 365mm untrimmed. One-up minimum format size is now 95mm x 65mm (trimmed), and 80mm x 65mm (front trim only). Ease of operation is now facilitated with a motorized stitching thickness adjustment. The standard operation of the DIGI-Finisher 8 continues to be a sheet-feeding folder to saddle stitcher combination.

The most important, and revolutionary, development in the design of the DIGI-Finisher 8 is the addition of roll feed capabilities through integration of an unwinder with sheeting and sheet delivery system. The uniqueness of this design allows the operator to convert from sheet feed to roll feed to meet the production criteria. The DIGI-Finisher 8 – hybrid design, new flexibility, resilient and cost efficient.
