Accura Glass Bending, Inc. has earned a reputation for creativity and innovation in the uniquely specialized but growing world of architectural glass products. After extensive research into available grand-format inkjet printers, the Concord, Ontario-based firm acquired the Screen Truepress Jet2500UV hybrid printing system to print directly onto glass sheets.

“Other flatbed and hybrid printing devices simply could not compare to the Truepress Jet2500UV in meeting our production needs,” said Brian Medinski, president. “The Truepress Jet2500UV allows us to print all manner of colors, images and textures on large sheets of glass.”

Established in 2000, Accura Glass creates elegant store fixtures, glass wall dividers and one-of-a-kind assemblies used by some of North America’s best-known brands. Accura Glass has done work for Tiffany’s, Prada and Holt Renfrew, among other familiar names. The company employs 20 people and generates $4 million in annual revenue.

Accura Glass co-founders Brian Medinski and Grigorii Khizguiiaev, who are both expert glass fabricators, have invented new tools and techniques to produce stunning bent glass, custom-laminated glass and UV-bonded showcases. With their new printing line, they are now able to produce custom imagery on the glass, which they then laminate to the interlayer making it a safety glass as well as to protect the image by encapsulating it.

A major market that Accura Glass has targeted is storefront glass typically seen in shopping malls and office buildings. Many such projects call for glass sheets up to 14 feet tall. Mr. Medinski said this size glass eliminated flatbed style printing systems from consideration.

“The flatbed systems we looked at could not accommodate the huge size,” he explained.

Then Accura Glass encountered another limitation in existing printing technology: a narrow field of high-resolution hybrid printers on the market.

“The high output resolution was the deciding factor in the Truepress Jet2500UV’s favor,” Mr. Medinski said. “Some of our projects require extremely high tolerances for text and line art. At 1,500 dpi, the resolution of the Truepress gives us the detail and crisp edges our clients require for fine-line imagery.”
