ATP Digitale Media Invests in HP Indigo Press 5500

Press release from the issuing company

BARCELONA, Spain, - HP today announced that ATP Digitale Media, of Hoofddorp, The Netherlands, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Groen Offset Hoofddorp b.v., has installed a seven-colour HP Indigo press 5500, replacing the six-colour HP Indigo press 5000 that it had been running for six years.

ATP Digitale Media is a business-to-business digital commercial printer serving a broad base of customers in the greater Amsterdam area. Customers include local companies, ad agencies and multi-national companies - all of which demand high quality print and finishing, giving ATP Digitale Media with an added incentive to retain its competitive edge with a new press. The company offers in-house cutting, folding, stitching, gathering, binding, stamping and laminating. These capabilities improve turnaround times, quality assurance and control of the entire workflow.

Sharing facilities with Groen Offset, ATP Digitale Media is able to make use of that company's comprehensive finishing facilities to produce high quality brochures, manuals, reports, leaflets, direct mail and other materials.

"We had very good experience with our HP Indigo 5000 press, and believe that HP Indigo presses still achieve the best digital print quality," said Jos Groen, owner and managing director, ATP Digitale Media. "With the new HP Indigo press 5500, we are also able to print white as well as match the PANTONE Colours that are important for our customers' brand and corporate identities."

The ability to print using HP Indigo White Ink is something that Groen sees as an opportunity for adding value as well as differentiating its work.

"We are currently exploring ways of using white ink with our customers," he said. "There are great possibilities for the production of distinctive materials and there's the possibility of combining the white ink with variable data printing to create direct mail and other print that grabs the attention."

Variable data work accounts, on average, for about 20 per cent of the company's work, though sometimes it can be far greater.

"Variable data is now convenient, quick and easy as the whole process is automated," Groen said. "It saves time and adds value."

Short-runs and quick turnarounds make up most of ATP Digitale Media's business, but it also carries out work making high quality dummies and trial products in quantities of 20-30 so that informed decisions can be made for full production runs.

"Combining digital and conventional printing is also a very good way of adding value," said Groen. "We personalised covers for a catalogue with the HP Indigo press 5500 and printed the contents conventionally. It combined the impact of digital and economy of conventional to produce a highly cost-effective result."

With a team of seven people, ATP Digitale Media carries out a dedicated digital printing operation from concept and project management to warehousing and fulfilment.
