Portmanteau brochure showcases Finch Premium Blend

Press release from the issuing company

Glens Falls, NY – An arrestingly beautiful array of images, typefaces, and words comprise the pages of Portmanteau, the latest Finch Premium Blend brochure showcasing brilliant photographic print reproduction.

Finch Premium Blend is archival text & cover paper, delivering 99 brightness, a velvety-smooth finish, 30% recycled, SFI and FSC certification, superb print quality, and availability in 70 lb. text through to 110 lb. double-thick cover in White and Soft White.

Glamour, fun, and double entendré set the stage at once, on the brochure's front cover. Here a classic, kelly-green portmanteau depicts elegance, while a luggage tag reading "portmanteau, The blended word on Finch Premium Blend" refers to the term's alternate meaning as a word created by blending two familiar words.

The intriguing concept and design was created by Decker Design, New York. As the pages turn, portmanteaus including Zensation , Glamazon , and Pixel  come to life in sharpest detail and with magnificent highlights, shadows, and the smoothest solids.

The author suggests the reader "think of Lewis Carroll's nonsensical poem Jabberwocky as the original 'portmanifesto."

From aerocade to zentrepreneur, it reads, portmanteau words are everywhere. You practice Franglais in the Chunnel, then zip to the Bakerloo on your moped.

A comprehensive glossary of portmanteau appears inside the foldout back cover, which is printed on Finch Premium Blend 110 lb. double-thick cover. In addition to specifications and production notes, the facing page also includes Portmanteau Resources and Carroll's Jabberwocky poem, in its entirety.

Lynda Decker, President & CEO, Decker Design, says that her entire team really embraced this project and particularly enjoyed collaborating with photographer Levi Brown. "We wanted to create a brochure that was different than any other paper promotion out there, and make it more than just 'eye candy'.

"We found that word blends are much more popular than you could imagine, so we had an excellent opportunity with Levi to not only showcase the attributes and beautiful, obsessively detailed images that the Premium Blend sheet produces; but also entertain and create a narrative arc to tie the expertly crafted images together throughout the promotion."

Award-winning New York City-based Brown, named a 2010 New and Emerging Photographer to Watch by PDN magazine, combines art, craft and color in his exuberant portraits printed on Finch Premium Blend.  "It was fun to make photographs that I thought would be impossible to print on uncoated paper," Brown says. "When we were doing that we thought, 'they'll never be able to print this!

"But they did!"

Beth Povie, Marketing Communications Manager at Finch Paper, explains that Brown's reference to the Chromalicious  center spread highlights Finch Premium Blend's capacity to reproduce the most complex color jobs with fidelity that is unmatched in both price and eco-responsibility.

"Finch starts with its feet in the forest. Our integrated process from forestry to pulp to papermaking allows us to keep prices in line and quality at its highest," she says of the unique advantage Finch brings its customers.
