CGS and Screen announce ORIS color management package for Truepress Jet520

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago - CGS Publishing Technologies International and Screen (USA) have announced an agreement to bundle ORIS technology with every Truepress Jet520 press sold in North and South America. Beginning in Q4, ORIS Press Matcher // Web will be included as a standard component of Screen's flagship digital inkjet press sold by Screen (USA).

An ORIS-enabled press will be demonstrated at the Screen (USA) booth (#1637) at GraphExpo 2010.

Screen (USA) made the decision to use ORIS after months of intensive testing. The combination resulted in substantial ink savings, and an increase in color quality, on a wide range of coated and uncoated stocks.

"The combination of Truepress Jet520's proven print technology and the ORIS solution maintains high image quality while reducing ink costs," said Screen (USA) Product Manager Tom Leibrandt. "The tests showed that ink usage was reduced by up to 15% while maintaining gray balance and improving color reproduction. Decreasing the total volume of ink used and improving drying was our number one goal. The overall improvement in color reproduction is an added benefit to our customers."

The Truepress Jet520 has been successful worldwide in applications including full variable data printing of direct mail, as well as on-demand color book and newspaper printing. The inclusion of ORIS ink savings and color control will widen the press' appeal in those applications, and add new ones, where the demand for color control is more acute.

Ink Savings and Color Stabilization
CGS' Director of Strategic Business, Bruce Brown was optimistic about the Truepress Jet520's expanding role. "The ink savings we measured are substantial, but that's only the beginning," he said. "With less coverage, you can run lighter, less porous stocks, and not worry about drying time or offsetting. Even more important, with ORIS, the print color quality is even better and more consistent. We achieved results that in my opinion would be consistent with G7 or GRACoL compliance."

ORIS Press Matcher was the recipient of the 2009 InterTech Technology Award for color management innovation on digital presses. By applying CGS' patented color management approach, ORIS Press Matcher has made it possible for many printers to achieve G7 certification on digital presses.
