Press release from the issuing company
Andover, MA – Standard will feature live demonstrations of a broad range of intelligently automated post press, paper handling and inserting solutions at Graph Expo, including several North American premiers. All solutions in booth 1244 will be shown under the theme "Intelligent Automation" to emphasize Horizon's commitment to using advanced automation and touchscreen control for super-efficient set-ups, lower operating costs, and best-in-class quality for short-run finishing. The Standard feeding and finishing portfolio continues to expand with new products, accessories and services surrounding the professional production and distribution of printed documents. A diverse set of Standard Hunkeler and Standard Horizon paper handling and finishing solutions will also be shown in partnership with six industry-leading digital print manufacturers.
Horizon Binders and Trimmers Break New Ground
Up to six MG-600 Gatherers can be placed in-line for a total of 36 stations, feeding up to 64-page signatures ranging from 5.83"x4.14" to 15.15"x 10.8". Other features include an in-line stacker for stand alone gathering, and advanced quality control features such as CCD cameras, thickness detection, and weight checking.
The SB-17 Perfect Binder allows for quick changeover from EVA to PUR adhesive with interchangeable tanks and book thicknesses from .08" to 2". Other features include CCD cameras on the cover feeder, ability to load covers on-the-fly, twin milling stations, automated in-line cover scoring, gauze feeding for hard cover book blocks, weight checking system and a digital caliper that measures book size and thickness and transfers settings to the binder for automated setup.
The HT-110 Three-knife Trimmer will accept a lift size up to 3.9" and produces trimmed books from 5.71"x4.05" to 14.4"x11.81".
The CABS 6000 is equipped with quick-change EVA and PUR glue tanks that slide out on rails to a wheeled trolley. Operators can easily changeover from one binding style to another in about 5 minutes. This flexibility lets printers serve more market segments and meet varying customer application requirements.
The new Standard Horizon HT-80 Three-knife Trimmer will also debut. It is designed for operation in-line with the Standard Horizon BQ-470, SB-07, and SB-09S perfect binders, or for use off-line. The HT-80 includes advanced set-up automation through a user-friendly 10.4" color touch-screen control panel to meet the requirements of the short run print-on-demand book market. After inputting the untrimmed and finished trim book sizes, automated adjustments include the infeed, jogging, and knife sections.
The HT-80 allows for trimming of variable thickness books, one after another, for true on demand book production. It can trim finished books from sizes ranging 5.5" x 3.9" up to 13.4" x 11.8", with programmable memory for up to 200 different jobs, for instant recall of frequently-run jobs. Precision stepper motors accurately position all guides and clamps to insure professional quality cutting at speeds up to 1,000 cycles per hour. A uniquely designed servo-motor controlled jogging mechanism helps provide accurate book registration. The swing knife movement ensures sharp and accurate trims to produce a clean finished book, and a silicon spray unit is available to keep the knife clean during operation.

The AFC-746F also contains a new ergonomically friendly slitter shaft removal system, where the operator can remove the perforation shaft automatically for easier blade setting – a quick releaser lever, internal elevator, and slide out carriage highlight this new feature. A new power stop system, where the transport belt at the knife section selectively slows/stops as the sheet reaches the knife stopper, eliminates bounce-back and damage to the sheet.
"Our business isn't just about equipment, it's about helping printers optimize their post-press operations to save time, produce more, and make money," says David Reny, Executive Vice President, Standard Finishing Systems, Horizon's exclusive North American distributor. "Best-in-class Horizon automation – such as on the CABS 6000 Binding System, HT-80 Trimmer, StitchLiner 6000, and AFC-746F Folder – lets us deliver productivity and labor-saving efficiency to digital print and conventional offset operations of every size."

Standard to Showcase Several New Low to Moderate Volume Finishing Products
The BQ-160 Binder will also be shown in-line with the new CRB-160 Cover Creaser, which is setup through the color touchscreen on the BQ-160. The scoring position is set automatically according to the book thickness that is measured on the BQ-160. The CRB-160 scores up to 150 lb. laminated covers, and a wide variety of scoring patterns can be selected from the touch screen. A stand alone model is also available with an integrated color touchscreen, and it is ideal for creasing covers, restaurant menus, greeting cards and other digital print applications.
New features and functionality on the Standard KAS line of intelligent inserting machines will be featured. A flexible new option for fast, reliable feeding of CD's, DVD's, and other media will be shown. This track-mounted device feeds a range of shapes and sizes down to business card size at up to 6,000 envelopes per hour. The 465HS system will also be equipped with the new KAS camera system that reads 2D, 1D, OCR or OMR for applications requiring verification and integrity.
Standard will also premier the new "VIVA" suite of vision-based inspection systems, custom-designed for document integrity, quality control and verification in production environments. The BQ-470 perfect binder will be equipped with VIVAbook cameras and software to check that book blocks and book covers match. The Standard Horizon HOF high-speed sheet feeder and SPF-200A saddlestitcher will also be equipped with VIVAstitch software and a camera to perform sheet-level and set-level integrity checking. The VIVA line will be deployed across a range of Standard Horizon and Standard Hunkeler solutions to ensure quality control, integrity, tracking and reporting of personalized documents.
