International Paper launches new Tinted Papers

Friday, April 16, 2010

Press release from the issuing company

Brussels, Belgium – International Paper, the world's largest paper and packaging company, has underlined its commitment to the Tinted Papers product sector with the announcement of the launch of nine new shades in its Rey Adagio range, and also the addition of additional weights, all of which will be produced at its Saillat mill.

The nine new shades that will be added to the Rey Adagio product range include; Bonbon, Sky, Pistachio, Sand, Leaf Green, Spring Green, Cinnamon, Lavender and Pumpkin. The addition of these new shades will increase the colour range available from 25 to 34, with additional weights also being added in SRA2 size of 160, 180 and 220gsm.

The release of the nine new shades and additional weights clearly underlines International Paper's continuing commitment to the Tinted Paper sector, following the switch of production from Inverurie to Saillat. Tints are produced at Saillat, International Paper's best in class European mill and an outstanding environmental production facility, Saillat is one of the world's best performing sites in terms of CO2 emissions. Since 1990, Saillat has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 78% (significantly better than the paper industry average of -27%). At the same time the Saillat mill, which was built in 1894, also uses thinning from certified forests or those that are in the process of becoming certified, with its main forestry supplies located within just 150km of the mill, reducing any transport related environmental impacts that may occur.

The production of Rey Adagio Tinted Papers also further highlights the environmental importance and performance of the Saillat production site, as Saillat also recovers the resources from the furniture and framing industries which they cannot use for its wood supply. In terms of energy efficiencies and performance, some 85% of Saillat's energy requirements are met by the on-site production of green energy (biomass) due to its combined heat and power plant. Again this is significantly better than the paper industry average of 53%, according to the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI).

The Saillat mill is a clear environmental leader, a fact endorsed by environmental certifications, which include ISO 9001/2000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, EU Eco-Label and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) Chain of Custody.

The Rey Adagio Tinted Paper product range consists of a variety of pastel, deep and fluo tinted papers, and is guaranteed on both laser and inkjet printing equipment.

As a further endorsement of its environmental performance, Rey Adagio is also PEFC certified, which guarantees that a product is made from sustainably managed forests.
