Wednesday, August 13, 2003
Mississauga, ON – August 13, 2003 – Printer/converters, designers, prepress specialists and others in the flexographic and flexible packaging industries can now attend a novel, traveling symposium on flexographic digital workflow presented by DuPont Imaging Technologies. The first of a series of educational symposiums called “Perfect Packaging Meets Perfect Workflow,” was held on June 13, 2003, at the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Del. Fall sessions are scheduled for Sept 16, in Appleton, Wis., Sept 18 in Itasca, Ill, and Oct. 7 in Toronto, Canada. Attendees at these half-day forums will learn and discuss a variety of subjects including – but not limited to – managing color across the distributed digital workflow; production advantages of digital workflows; digital printing plates; and how digital prepress technology drives printing consistency and reduces costs. One of the highlights of the symposium is a, real-time video/audio conference link to the DuPont Cyrel packaging graphics laboratory in Wilmington, Del. Attendees play the role of the Consumer Product Company and are asked to name the product to be printed. Then, they are able to see first hand the speed of digital workflow and discuss the making of a digital plate from computer layout to dry thermal processing/ready for press. Greg Collins, vice president – manufacturing at C-P Flexible Packaging in York, PA, an attendee in Wilmington said, “The DuPont symposium was very useful in helping tie together the different segments of the flexographic digital workflow to each other. The session not only covered what is available but also the newest technologies that are being developed to provide even additional value by improving the accuracy, efficiency and success of the flexographic digital workflow.” Wendy Andrushko, Business manager for DuPont Canada Cyrel said, “Topics that will be covered at this symposium are designed to help attendees leverage digital technology by allowing flexo converters to get the most from their flexo press investment. As well as allowing prepress firms to advance the state-of-the-art of managing, distributing and outputting digital data, and; show how consumer product companies can benefit from the speed and print quality of digital workflow.” Additional information on the upcoming fall symposiums, including agenda, hotel sites and registration, is available by logging on to www.cyrel.dupont.com. Pre-registration is required and seating will be limited to create the desired educational environment for flexible package designers, printers and prepress specialists; tag and label producers, and; flexo printing and prepress firms interested in implementing a fully digital prepress workflow. “DuPont has a long standing commitment to investing in educational programs for the industry,” said Bob Wray, marketing manager for Cyrel in North and South America. “Over 500 people a year attend training and technology reviews at our Customer Technology Center in Wilmington, Del. The Digital Workflow Symposium allows us to host additional technology reviews that are easily accessible in major packaging market areas.” Symposiums will also be held in four additional locations during 2004 at dates/locations to be announced following the fall 2003 series. DuPont Imaging Technologies is a leading supplier of flexographic printing plates and color proofing products to the packaging industry in both analog and digital formats, and currently offers the world’s only dry flexo platemaking system for use in an all-digital workflow: CyrelFAST.
