Dalim Software launches TWiST PRiNTEMPO at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

Chicago, IL, USA – At Graph Expo, Dalim Software introduced TWiST PRiNTEMPO, a browser-based JDF print production system that can be used by a printer using any common web browser, on any client platform, to monitor the status of the production of pages and trigger actions such as the generation of plates or proofs. An optional module to DALiM TWiST’s automated workflow system, TWiST PRINTEMPO can also automate the production of imposed pages. One unique new feature of TWiST PRiNTEMPO is automatic placement of pages into a predetermined imposition. Based on the DALiM TWiST workflow server solution, all submitted pages are preflighted using intelligent “soft interpretation”. Once the preflight check passed, pages are normalized into a print predictable format. When pages are RIPped, trapped and proofed, imposed forms can be automatically generated according to the JDF imposition template selected for the job and the separation specifications given. If a page has no page number information, users can select the pagination with the ease of a ‘drag and drop’ interface, or they can be positioned manually inside the template using web-based drag and drop technology. TWiST PRINTEMPO also supports versioning. If a new page version is received, it is stored and labeled with a different version number. Users can select a preferred version at any time – even a former version. The signature is automatically assigned new status for validation or approval. If pagination changes, a simple ‘drag and drop’ from a clipboard allows the operator to correctly edit the page order, and automatically generate a new imposed form. When a page does not exactly fit the graphical expectations, some last changes like page translations, rotation or scaling can be performed directly in the signature. Sometimes a different press is selected to print a job. In such case, from a web browser, an operator can easily select a new template from the database and the entire job can be re-paginated in seconds. Comprehensive status information for all job pages and imposed forms can be tracked via a web-browser. At any given moment, the production operator has a clear status view of each job, its pages, and its impositions. Job status is revealed by user-specified icons – thumbnails and full-page PDF views of each page are also available. This gives production full, real-time control over production planning and management. By fixing deadlines for each stage, or by reverse calculating all interim deadlines from the final job deadline, any job can be controlled and scheduling difficulties can be detected proactively. To help validate a job, web-based soft-proofing of pages or the signature is available from the time they are submitted to TWiST PRINTEMPO. TWiST PRINTEMPO works in an open, independent prepress environment. Prepress shops can keep and integrate their existing hardware in a complete solution. They can select their preferred imposition software, RIP, proofer, and output device. They may also choose their working file formats (e.g., ROOM or NORM; vector or bitmap). DALiM PRiNTEMPO’s browser-based technology makes it viewable on virtually any platform and operating system. Furthermore, creating Job Ticket Definition and JDF templates, DALiM PRiNTEMPO is currently the only all browser based system to automatically generate complete print signatures completely via interaction using JDF templates. “We believe TWiST PRiNTEMPO allows sheet and web-offset printers extremely powerful tools to manage their businesses more efficiently and, ultimately, more profitably,” comments Gee Ranasinha, Dalim Software director of marketing. “The quick and easy management of imposition and placement of pages saves time and money, while the real time view of project status enables prepress department to operate efficiently and locate project trouble spots. Thus, TWiST PRiNTEMPO automatic workflow allows the prepress department to do what it should be doing: focusing on more, skilled – and billable – operations.
