California DMV goes with HP Exstream software

Press release from the issuing company

PALO ALTO, Calif. – HP today announced the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the organization responsible for registering vehicles and licensing drivers in the state of California, has implemented the HP Exstream enterprise document automation solution to help reduce IT costs and improve the quality of its citizen communications.

Using HP Exstream software, the California DMV is able to quickly create direct-response constituent correspondence to accommodate almost 32 million registered vehicles and approximately 26 million licensed drivers and identification holders in the state – nearly 100 million documents each year.

The California DMV selected HP Exstream for the software's open architecture, ability to easily fit into an existing IT environment, and ease of use for designing, deploying and maintaining driver documents of all types. HP Exstream software has enabled the agency to streamline development practices across its vehicle registration and drivers license IT departments.

The flexibility and design capabilities of HP Exstream allow the agency to pull information from multiple data sources and incorporate that data to improve timeliness and relevancy of its citizen communication. For example, the organization can now dynamically incorporate pertinent safety issues, environmental initiatives or new laws that affect drivers in the state of California into relevant correspondence.

California DMV also is adding value to its document delivery system with HP Output Server. With its advanced features and ability to easily integrate with HP Exstream, HP Output Server meets the California DMV's print server requirements and enables the agency to have a centralized managed system for tracking and controlling documents being printed in more than 200 statewide field offices.

"Building on our commitment to uphold a high level of citizen service, HP Exstream gives us a single, comprehensive infrastructure for improving our document creation processes," said Steven Westerman, deputy director, California Department of Motor Vehicles. "This solution makes it easier for our employees to meet the department's goals to communicate more effectively to all citizens across California."

HP Exstream provides businesses and agencies around the world a single software platform to design, create, deliver and manage customer and citizen communications, regardless of complexity, variability or delivery channel. Companies and agencies that use HP Exstream can reduce document development and production costs and get critical communications to customers and citizens faster, in their preferred languages, through preferred channels, and with clearer, more relevant content.

"HP Exstream offers a robust solution to help government agencies, like the California DMV, reduce IT costs with more effective and streamlined development of citizen communications," said Stephen Matthews, director, Enterprise Software Sales, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "We are working to help this progressive organization better communicate with the California public, which in turn helps provide bottom line results for the DMV – as well as taxpayers."
