HGS expert to discuss XDI technology

Press release from the issuing company

Charlotte, N.C. -- Alexander James, Technical Graphics Manager at Harper GraphicSolutions will discuss the benefits of ceramic laser engraved gravure cylinders during the Fall Technical Conference of the Association of Industrial Metalilizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL). The conference runs Oct. 18-21 at Amelia Island Plantation in Florida.

At his Oct. 21 presentation, James will provide an in-depth view of Harper's new Xtreme Digital Imaging (XDI) technology and the advantages of using laser engraved ceramic coated surfaces for direct gravure and offset coating processes.

Among the foremost benefits of laser engraved ceramic gravure cylinders, according to James, is length of performance. Ceramic cylinders from Harper, he said, routinely offer a service life that is 10 times that of a conventional chrome roller. The difference is especially apparent, he said, when abrasive inks and coatings are involved.

In addition, the laser engraved ceramic cylinders deliver enhanced consistency and superior flexibility for handling changes in patterns and graphics. With metallic, fluorescents and whites, the cylinders enhance press uptime and consistency.

XDI engravings can be built from digital halftone files, digital patterns or logos. "At the core of our ability to create ceramic gravure cylinders is our expertise in ceramic applications, laser engraving and post-engraving finishing," James said.

Fall conference visitors will benefit from an outstanding program put together by AIMCAL technical committees. Discussions will focus on productivity, impact technology and market research, with concurrent sessions on coating/laminating and vacuum web coating.
