KAMA Announces Hot Foil Stamping System for the ProCut 53

Press release from the issuing company

Dresden -- KAMA has developed a sophisticated yet easy-to-use hot foil stamping system for the ProCut 53, the world’s first flatbed A3 die cutter. The ProCut 53 attracted significant interest when it was introduced at drupa 2008. Since then, the manufacturer has sought to develop and test the hot foil stamping system to maximize the options on the die cutter that offer added value. The hot foiling system is now being introduced to the market in the UK.

The new hot foil stamping module finishes the most intricate scripts and designs with all kinds of hot foils at a rate of up to 5,000 sheets per hour. Additional applications “flat hot foil” and “embossed hot foil“ make the KAMA ProCut 53  a truly superb finishing die cutter. Embossing can be handled in a single throughput.

“With these new options we are offering printers, book binders and die cutters a machine that will enable them to handle the widest range of A3 finishing jobs very flexibly and very profitably,” said KAMA CEO Marcus Tralau. “Our customers will be able to exploit the wide range of possibilities hot foil stamping offers to create three-dimensional gloss and tactile effects that can distinguish their products from those of their competitors.” Mr. Tralau also acknowledged a growing interest in the “small” ProCut 53 for digital printing applications where heavier weights of paper are becoming more common and where the demand for finishing is growing.

Fast Set-Up, Fast Warm-Up
The new module for the ProCut 53 is based on the proven hot foil stamping module for KAMA’s multi-functional ProCut 74 die cutter, which the company has marketed successfully for six years. It works with four separately controlled heating zones and comes with a choice of one or two independently controlled foil feeders. Hot foil stamping can be carried out within 510 x 360 mm (die cutting up to 510 x 380 mm).

Because KAMA finishing die cutters heat only the aluminum heating plate, warm-up time for hot foil stamping on the ProCut 53 takes between five and 10 minutes; that translates into enormous time and cost savings in the finishing process.

At 10 minutes, the changeover from hot foil stamping to die cutting is equally short, so that the die cutter can be used for many different jobs in the course of a single day. When changing from one application to another, the insulated frame containing the heating plates is simply exchanged for the chase with the die cutting tools.

The hot foil stamping module can be retrofitted by installing it on the top of the ProCut 53. This makes the entire die cutter 25 cm taller – but no wider. The footprint of this compact machine is only a little more than four square meters, leaving the work space of 12 square meters unchanged.
