Matik North America announces Variable Chip-Out SW Sheeter

Press release from the issuing company

Matik North America, based in West Hartford CT, has announced a new partnership with ESS Graphic the Danish manufacturer of web finishing equipment.

ESS Graphic builds custom solutions for reel-fed products which are available in a complete line for a pre-printed web or units that can be installed in an existing press or finishing line. The units include die-cutting units, flexo units for varnish, glue or scratch-off and patch applicators.

The new SW Sheeter is unique to ESS Graphic as it can sheet and stack, via the use of a starwheel, difficult to handle shapes or products that have multiple thicknesses or have been finished to add value, this is an area of concern for traditional sheeters and their stacking systems.  The SW Sheeter also offers a variable chip-out from ¼” to 2” and can run in ‘butt-butt-gap’ mode to allow more flexibility and layout for the pre-printed reel.

As a servo-driven unit, the SW Sheeter can be added and moved to any production line. It is equipped with an automatic register control to ensure cut-off accuracy. After the sheeter block the product is transferred to a vacuum belt without shingling and the sheets are then delivered into the starwheel which has a 100% count accuracy. An inserter can also be mounted in the delivery prior to the starwheel  for batching products with backers/slip sheets/stabilizers . Booklets and glued document packs can also be assembled in the sheeter by using a glue nozzle in the vacuum belt section. Gaming and lottery play slips are run in different countries on the SW Sheeters as they are usually 5 or 6 wide and each stream can be delivered separately.

The SW Sheeter has been implemented in the DM and Transpromo sector for a number of years (with multiple installations in the USA), but the unit has also been utilized recently for film bottle labels. Solutions for cut and stack applications for PS and film label printers are readily available

The SW Sheeter can also be integrated with an ESS die-cutting unit to cut and strip carton (up to 16 point) before it is transferred into the delivery section. ESS also offers an automatic robotic in-feed for packing lines from the back of the sheeter for a complete turnkey production solution. Available in two web widths, 20 ½” and 26 ¾”, the sheeter can run up to 1000 feet/minute. The cut-off range is from 6” – 17” and is infinitely adjustable via the touch screen operator panel.

Chris Davis, Sales Manager at Matik ‘ESS Graphic has a real depth of experience in finishing systems, adding value and streamlining production with a real talent for building customized solutions. The SW Sheeter covers many different markets and substrates. ESS offers sound solutions for the packaging market as well as the traditional paper based products.’
