EFI and IKON Announce Electronic Document Capture Solution

Press release from the issuing company

Foster City, Calif. and Malvern, Pa. -- EFI, the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, and IKON Office Solutions, Inc., a Ricoh company, today announced IKON DocSend Server, a software solution that can convert existing Multi Function Printers (MFPs) into powerful document capture and distribution devices. With 23 percent of documents existing only in paper format*, this solution provides quick and easy transformation of paper documents into digital files for instantaneous information delivery and simplified storage from Ricoh MFPs with embedded Java Software Developers Kit (SDK) capabilities. Leveraging the groundbreaking technology of IKON DocSend, the new IKON DocSend Server is hosted on a centralized Windows server that communicates to client applications running on MFP control panels, allowing customers to connect and manage multiple MFPs from one centralized server.

IKON DocSend Server is an ideal solution for corporate enterprises such as financial services, insurance, healthcare, higher education, and legal services that handle sensitive hard copy documentation, enabling easy archive and retrieval while providing for a high level of security. The solution converts existing MFPs into interactive interfaces that make it easier to leverage the embedded and advanced functionalities of smart MFPs, including e-mail, fax, scan and document management – all from a single networked device. With IKON DocSend Server, any file can be captured and quickly converted into a Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Adobe PDF file for editing, reformatting, archiving or distribution. This powerful functionality eliminates the need to re-type documents that are only available in paper format, saving time, physical storage space and resources while helping to create a greener office environment. The solution also provides state-of-the-art security measures and powerful sender authentication and audit trail features to help ensure compliance with federal regulations.

"In partnership with IKON, EFI is taking digital document capture and distribution to a new level, putting easy-to-use scan, email and other functions right on the MFP control panel, right at the fingertips of all users," said John Henze, vice president of marketing, Fiery division, EFI. "One of the key differentiators of this offering is superior optical character recognition (OCR) capability that maintains the integrity of the original document and easily allows conversion into Word, Excel and PDF."

"We're extremely pleased to offer this exclusive solution to our customer base, creating a more seamless bridge between the paper and digital worlds to ensure productivity improvements for operations of all sizes," said Mike Dane, vice president of product and services marketing at IKON Office Solutions, Inc. "The robust features of IKON DocSend Server establish a new price and value proposition for our customers from two trusted solution providers."

IKON DocSend Server supports various interfaces (also called connectors) to document management systems to further enhance productivity by facilitating streamlined business processes across the enterprise. The supported connectors include email, OCR, legal stamping, scan-to-folder, Ricoh DocumentMall, Microsoft SharePoint, Documentum, EFI Digital StoreFront and many others. The IKON DocSend Server connectors are built and directly supported by EFI to ensure end-to-end interoperability. Special licensing is also available for multiple MFPs and connectors.
