PBI Launches Glossary for Print Buyers

Press release from the issuing company

April 24, 2008, Chestnut Hill, MA. . . Print Buyers International has launched a new online Print Buyer Glossary, which is available at www.bostonprintbuyers.com. This new glossary is an important resource that's available for everyone, especially for print buyers, from novices in the field to those who have decades of experience.

"We're delighted to be able to provide this resource to the print buying community," said Margie Dana, Founder of Print Buyers International and its member-based group, Boston Print Buyers. "One of the most exciting aspects is the fact that it will function much like a wiki. We encourage members of the industry - especially buyers - to submit terms for inclusion in our glossary. There's a form online for submitting entries. New terms will be incorporated regularly, resulting in relevant and current content."

The framework for the Print Buyer Glossary has already been established with several hundred words and phrases that are listed alphabetically. The Glossary contains terms that the general public uses, such as "PC: A Personal Computer" and "Gigabyte (GB): One billion bytes," to detailed, vital-to-the-printing-industry jargon such as Preflighting, Register Marks, Transparent ink, and Waterless printing.

In addition, Print Buyers International is in the process of building a subglossary to specifically target the industry's green printing and sustainability movement, which is developing as a major long-term trend.

To view the Print Buyer Glossary, visit www.bostonprintbuyers.com and click the "Resources" tab, which also houses contributed articles and the group's online Print Buyer Forum.

"Within days of my announcing the new glossary to my Print Tips subscribers, I received about two dozen new terms," said Dana. "Stan Rosen of HP sent me a batch that included skinnies, fatties, and Quick Sucker Uppers (QSU). I'm getting a whole new education myself!"

Print buyers as well as print and paper manufacturers are invited to add their own contributions to the Print Buyer Glossary to help to make it the premier printing resource directory anywhere.
