Printers Warming Up to PC Files

Press release from the issuing company

Printers and service bureaus are increasingly opening their arms to PC files. But does this mean the days of desktop publishing and prepress being a "Macs-only club" are showing signs of ending? Exaggeration or fact? The facts are that only 16% of service bureaus, and 17% of quick/commercial printers, cite receiving PC-formatted files as a challenge. This is down from 21% of service bureaus and 26% of quick/commercial printers as recently as a year ago. Why should you care?... Although stalwart creative professionals are fiercely loyal to the Macintosh, it is no longer the case that you "have to have a Mac" to do DTP or prepress. This is likely more of an education issue on the part of PC users rather than any technological advantage. But even though Macintosh G4s are still hot items among printers and service bureaus, their clients -- especially the Web shops -- are increasingly PC-based. Hmm... could we really be getting closer to platform-independent DTP creation?
