Adobe chooses callas preflight technology

Press release from the issuing company

Berlin and Düsseldorf, Germany - June 11, 2008 - callas software, leading supplier of PDF technologies for print production and document archival, is proud to announce Adobe has chosen to integrate callas software's PDF preflight technology in the latest version of Acrobat 9 Pro. Building on a partnership that has existed since 2002, this is the 4th major version of Acrobat to include callas preflighting. The same technology is available to other vendors and forms the basis of the recently announced callas pdfToolbox 4.

Improved communication between designers and production
First introduced in Acrobat 6, preflight has become an essential tool within Acrobat Pro. It allows graphic arts professionals to ensure files are ready for production, streamlining the transition from design to print. This latest version offers support for all PDF/A, PDF/E and PDF/X standards, including the recently published PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5. It is also compliant with the latest Ghent PDF Workgroup specifications.

For Acrobat 9, callas and Adobe have also joined forces to implement the Ghent PDF Workgroup "Universal Proof of Preflight". As the first product to support this new cross vendor specification, Acrobat 9 further improves communication between designers and production by offering a preflight audit trail. This provides information on whether a preflight has been carried out, which specification was used and what the outcome of the verification was for a specific PDF. In addition, the user can verify whether the file has been altered since the preflight was last executed. This process provides more transparent file exchange and avoids having to preflight files in different stages of the workflow.

Increased performance, verification and correction capabilities
callas has worked hard to further increase operator productivity, first and foremost by increasing the basic preflight performance and by extending the built-in fixing capabilities within Acrobat. Files are not just being checked, they are optimized for the intended production process.

Solid foundation for additional PDF power and automation
callas' technology developed for Acrobat 9 is at the same time the foundation for callas' new pdfToolbox product line. pdfToolbox 4 is being previewed at the drupa innovation parc in Hall 7, booth 7.0 C. For automated preflighting, fixing and other advanced PDF manipulation callas will also be upgrading its pdfToolbox Server. Both products are scheduled to be released before the end of the year.
