Polestar Launches V2 Of Carbon Calculator

Press release from the issuing company

(November 17, 2008) Following on from its successful launch in June, Polestar has upgraded its Carbon Calculator as it seeks to improve its relevance and performance for users.

Polestar Group Risk Manager Gary Marshall says: “As we said at our Carbon Conference, the calculator was and is a work in progress and would only improve with input from our colleagues, suppliers and customers.”

He continues: “What we have learned over the last few months in terms of what users need is now included. The outcome is a system that is not only much easier to use – complete with ‘Help’ button - but offers far greater facilities for obtaining and comparing calculations.”

He explains: “Once data has been entered, it is now possible to make changes to any part of it – for example, size, pagination or paper weight – without having to start the process from scratch. This allows users to check the carbon footprint of their print using a variety of data to discover which combination would provide the most environmentally friendly outcome.”

The site has also expanded the information that must be entered by the user. This enables a more accurate calculation to be made as well as providing data relevant to the audited reports organisations will need for their own administration.

The film shown at Polestar’s Carbon Conference, entitled ‘The Journey Revealed’ which covered the life-cycle of paper, from seed to recycling, can now be found on YouTube, under Polestar Carbon.
