Sixth Goss M-600 web press for PunaMusta Oy, Finland

Press release from the issuing company

August 17th, 2007 – One of the largest graphic industry corporations in Finland, PunaMusta Oy, has invested in a new 70,000-impressions-per-hour Goss M-600 dual-web press to increase printing capacity at the company’s facility in Joensuu in the eastern part of Finland. PunaMusta Oy specializes in the production of both commercial and newspaper products that include high-quality magazines, newspapers, advertising publications, brochures and direct marketing products. The new press, the sixth M-600 system at the company, is due to be installed in the last quarter of 2007.
PunaMusta Oy took delivery of the world’s first M-600 heatset press with the Autoplate fully automatic plate changing system in 1996 and since then has invested continually in the market-leading technology.
Jari Avellan, managing director, comments, “We were looking for a solution to support and complement our existing presses and at the same time increase our competitiveness in the market. Our existing presses are currently running at high capacity. The new M-600 system, with the ability to print up to 32 pages, will give us flexibility and the additional capacity required to react to future changes in the market.”
The new Goss M-600 press at PunaMusta Oy will include nine units in a stacked configuration with a JF-70 folder and Goss Ecocool dryer. The dual-web press will also operate as two separate 16-page presses and will be equipped with the Autoplate fully automatic plate changing system. Multidrive, Omnicon controls and the Goss Web Center workflow modules will provide makeready speed and waste reduction benefits.
“Flexibility and quality are key to this latest investment,” emphasizes Avellan. “Our customers have come to expect the highest print quality from us, and this will continue to be our primary focus.”
According to Avellan, the new press is part of a €15 million investment in new equipment and facilities at the plant and will also necessitate new employment for the company.
Avellan continues, “A press constructed in this way with a dual-web is the best possible solution for us at this time to allow us to satisfy customer demands. Our first M-600 press was, at that time, a market reference for quality and technology. Over the years, the M-600 technology has been enhanced and developed to maintain its position as the world’s leading 16-page press equipped for today’s publishing challenges.”
The Goss M-600 is the world market leader in the 16-page web press sector and is designed for a wide range of commercial and publication applications. Since its introduction in 1992, more than 2,000 M-600 printing units have been installed in a wide range of configurations capable of printing at 45,000 to 70,000 impressions per hour.
