Press release from the issuing company

Lexington, KY, USA - - WhatTheyThink, the first daily portal for the printing and graphic arts community, has just completed a study of 305 print buyers who spend over $200 million annually on print services. The study asked print buyers detailed questions related to their use of the internet. The survey was conducted with print buyers who spend a minimum of $100,000 annually on print services. Among other questions, these buyers were asked: New Web Based Collaboration Software allows printers and print buyers to manage, proof, price and communicate over the internet. Which best describes your attitude about such technology? Overall, 19 percent said they have implemented web based collaboration software. 63 percent said they were open to considering such services and 8 percent said they have examined such systems and decided against the concept. Only 10 percent of these buyers said they would not consider web based workflow solutions. Of buyers outsourcing $1 million or more annually of print, 24 percent said they have implemented such a system. 58 percent said they were open to the idea and 8 percent said they have looked at web workflow solutions and decided against it. In line with the overall percentage, 10 percent said they would not consider web based systems. Of buyers spending between $500,000 and $1 million annually on printing, 25 percent said they have placed such web systems within their company and 57 percent said they are open to the idea. 11 percent said they have examined these solutions and decided against it while only 7 percent said they would not implement web based collaboration software. Of buyers spending between $100,000 and $500,000 on print services annually, only 11 percent say they have a web based solution with their printer. 72 percent said they were open to the idea. Only 4 percent have had the opportunity to look at this opportunity and decide against it. 13 percent said they would not use such a system. Said Randy Davidson, President of WhatTheyThink, "The data shows tremendous opportunity all over the place for web based vendors and printers. Many web based solution providers have stayed in the Fortune 2000 companies because of their revenue model, but there appears to be a great degree of acceptance below the radar." When asked about the type of web based collaboration services these buyers have implemented, Davidson explained, "We did not attempt to educate the buyers about the different degrees of web based solutions in the market place. So the definition of 'web based collaboration software' may vary to some buyers. However, it clearly illustrates opportunity for printers and software providers."
