PARAMUS, N.J., FEBRUARY 5, 2007 — NAPL (www.napl.org), the trade association for excellence in graphic communications management, has named Dr. J. Page Crouch, Alumni Professor Emeritus of Graphic Communications at Clemson University, Clemson, S.C., the recipient of its 2007 Technical Leadership Award. The award recognizes Dr. Crouch’s outstanding contribution to graphic communications education through a distinguished career in teaching and developing curricula for the wide range of printing processes, including flexography, offset lithography, screen printing, and gravure, and his prolific writing on variety of technical industry issues. “As one of the industry’s foremost educators, Page’s contribution to the advancement of the printing and graphic communications industry is immeasurable,” said Joseph P. Truncale, NAPL president and chief executive officer. “I and everyone at NAPL extend to him our sincere congratulations on this well-deserved honor.” Dr. Crouch joined the faculty of Clemson in 1968. At the university, he was instrumental in developing Clemson’s undergraduate and graduate program to prepare students for the printing and packaging industries, and was responsible for the development of the University’s hands-on industry training programs used by employers nationwide and abroad. Under his leadership, Clemson University has developed a flexo capability it describes as “second to none in an American educational setting.” Dr. Crouch continues to work at Clemson teaching in-plant and conducting technical workshops and seminars, while also doing consulting through his company, Print Education & Training, LLC, on a range of printing, printing education, and industry training issues. A prolific author, he has written numerous articles on technical and education/training topics relating to the printing industry that have been published in a variety of periodicals and journals and is author of the Flexo Primer. A frequent speaker at industry events and a recipient of numerous industry honors, Dr. Crouch is active in a number of trade associations and is a member of NAPL’s Walter E. Soderstrom Society. A native of San Diego, Calif., Dr. Crouch holds Bachelor and Master degrees from San Diego State University and a doctorate from the University of Missouri. The NAPL Technical Leadership Award is presented annually to an individual in the graphic communications industry who personifies the principles of craftsmanship. The award recognizes definable achievement in some area of technical endeavor that can be broadly characterized as technical leadership. This leadership may be demonstrated through work in associations, through practical technological achievement and/or invention including the unique application of technology, or in graphic communications education. The NAPL Technical Leadership Award is part of the NAPL Awards program, which also includes an Industry Award. (Komori is the recipient of 2007 NAPL Industry Award.
