Hauppauge, New York – Through digital workflow utilizing JDF (Job Definition Format), combined with the use of print finishing machines equipped with AMRYS (Automatic Make-Ready System), make-readies can be completed 75% faster on saddle stitchers and 90% faster on cutters. These are among the findings in research conducted by PIA/GATF, underscoring the ability of automation to enhance profitability by shortening set-up times, speeding job changeovers, lowering labor costs and reducing expensive mistakes. PIA/GATF will lead an informative new workshop offering the first proven information about how print production operations can take advantage of JDF-enabled workflow. The workshop, entitled “Implementing a JDF Workflow,” will take place September 28-29, 2006 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Leading the workshop will be Dr. Mark Bohan, who heads JDF research for PIA/GATF. In addition to gaining comprehensive knowledge about how automation can increase productivity and profits, attendees will get a first-hand look at JDF workflow in action – viewing a sample job being produced live using JDF. Muller Martini has introduced several print finishing machines that can be equipped with AMRYS technology in order to take full advantage of JDF workflow, including the Muller Martini Optima, PrimaPlus and BravoPlus saddle stitchers. AMRYS performs make-readies virtually on its own, all but eliminating manual readying of finishing equipment, significantly decreasing production expenses.
