Annual Report Season at Sandy Alexander Makes for a Greener Planet

Press release from the issuing company

[CLIFTON, NJ, MAY 25, 2006] – The Fortune-500 clients who printed their annual reports at Sandy Alexander this year have made the planet a little bit greener, according to Chip Stine, Sandy Alexander’s Senior Vice President of Sales. Sandy Alexander, the largest consumer of “green energy” in the printing and publishing sector, relies on 100% Green-e certified wind-generated energy to power its Clifton, New Jersey operations. The company is also one of the leading providers of corporate annual report printing. So far this year , Sandy Alexander has printed nearly 30 annual reports, for companies including Bank of America, BP, The Coca-Cola Company, IBM, JP Morgan Chase, and Pfizer, among others. During this annual-report season, Sandy Alexander clients used 1,052 megawatt-hours of wind power, preventing the release of more than 1,944,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (which contributes to global warming), and more than 4,100 pounds of nitrogen oxides (which contribute to the formation of acid rain) which would have been created through conventional power generation. “Collectively this season, our clients gave the planet greenhouse-gas-reduction benefits equal to planting a forest of more than 132,000 trees, and air-quality benefits equal to eliminating more than 1.6 million miles of automobile travel.” Stine said. “Many of Sandy Alexander’s clients have recognized the value in linking their overall corporate sustainability and environmental goals to a print provider that not only shares the same vision, but also provides an opportunity to further reinforce the client’s sustainability message to its shareholders and customers,” states Roy Grossman, Sandy Alexander’s President and CEO. To help clients present a more powerful message about sustainability, Sandy Alexander calculates the environmental benefits of using green energy on a per-job basis. The company passes this information along so that its clients can claim due credit for demonstrating their own environmental responsibility through their choice of printers. “We know how much energy each of our presses uses on an hourly basis,” said Stine, “and armed with formulas from our energy supplier we can estimate very closely the environmental benefits associated with running each job on clean wind power rather than on conventional energy from fossil fuel sources.” Sandy Alexander’s 100% reliance on wind power is just one facet of the company’s broader agenda – to reduce the impact of the printing industry on the environment. “Every decision made in the printing business, from the choice of inks and paper to the shipping of finished products, to the handling of printed waste, has upstream and downstream implications for the environment,” Grossman notes. “Our goal is to lead the industry by example as we continually reduce our environmental footprint and demonstrate that environmental responsibility is a sound business practice.”
