Transcontinental to publish More magazine in Canada

MONTREAL, May 4 -- Transcontinental announced today that it has reached an exclusive, multi-year licensing agreement with U.S. publisher Meredith Corporation to become the publisher of More magazine's Canadian version, to be launched in spring 2007. More targets the 40+ female demographic and has an Audit Bureau of Circulation-verified circulation of 1.1 million copies in the U.S. The addition will bring Transcontinental Media's magazine total to 43, including 27 titles in its consumer magazine portfolio. Transcontinental will also print More's Canadian version. "This agreement with a major American publisher is yet another successful execution of one of our primary growth strategies: to partner with other industry-leading companies to develop innovative products and services," said Luc Desjardins, president and CEO of Transcontinental. "Meredith's reputation as the American consumer magazine specialist for over a century now and More's popularity combine to make this a promising partnership that may foster further opportunities for both our publishing and printing activities." More is the defining magazine of a powerful and empowered generation - a growing community of women over 40 who are more accomplished, more confident, more influential and more resourceful. With features on health, beauty, fashion, food and lifestyle, finance, foreign and national affairs, the arts, travel and more, More gives established women more of what they want to get more out of life. Francine Tremblay, senior vice president of consumer publications at Transcontinental Media, explained that "More fills an underserved niche in both the Canadian marketplace and Transcontinental's suite of women's magazines. This addition will allow our advertisers to follow consumers from Elle Girl to Elle Canada, then to Canadian Living and Homemakers, through to More and Good Times. And Transcontinental, the Canadian consumer magazine leader, stands to gain from Meredith's experience in their larger market." More magazine's Canadian ramp up will begin in July of this year, with Dianne Rinehart as its editor-in-chief. Rinehart was editor-in-chief of Transcontinental Media's Homemakers magazine from 1999 to 2003, where she assigned and published articles that won the B'nai Brith and Amnesty International Human Rights Media Awards, plus many others which were nominated for National Magazine Awards. She has also worked as a senior reporter, editor, and freelance writer for news organizations, newspapers and consumer magazines in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Moscow, and most recently worked as a freelance political columnist and instructor at Ryerson University's School of Journalism.
