Curtis Packaging takes three major awards in the National Paperboard Packaging Competition

Press release from the issuing company

Sandy Hook, CT -- Curtis Packaging further enhanced its reputation as one of the nation's leading high-quality packaging designers and printers by bringing home three major awards from the 2006 National Paperboard Packaging Competition, which was conducted earlier this year by the Paperboard Packaging Council. Curtis earned prestigious a Gold Award for Bernheim Wheat Whiskey packaging, developed and produced for Heaven Hill. The carton features five PMS colors, embossing, matte hot stamping, as well as high gloss UV and spot matte varnish. The package simulated the trademark burlap look and feel of the brand. Curtis designers actually scanned a piece of burlap in their layout and created embossing dies to mimic the texture of burlap. Curtis won another esteemed Gold Award for Estee Lauder's Origins – Modern Friction. The cartons 18 pt. substrate, which was uncoated and featured one spot color, made history. Curtis worked with a paper mill to create an environmentally sound paperboard that is 100% recycled, composed of 75% post consumer waste and made with wind power —a first of its kind for the cosmetics industry. Curtis also received a coveted Excellence Award for its Be Delicious packaging for DKNY, another Estee Lauder brand. The assignment involved production of several packaging styles and types, using a variety of varnishes, UV coatings and inks to produce a range of rich surfaces, the better to reflect the quality of the products inside. “We're honored that the Paperboard Packaging Council chose our work as category-leading examples of what state-of-art packaging can be and can do,” says Donald R. Droppo, Chairman & CEO of Curtis Packaging. “And we're prouder still of our clients who work with us to create packaging that rises above the ordinary to make an extraordinary statement about the brand it contains. We thank the contest judges and we thank our customers for this great opportunity to exhibit our capabilities.
