BOWE BELL + HOWELL enhances popular Enduro inserting system

Press release from the issuing company

Wheeling, Ill., May 31, 2006 – BOWE BELL + HOWELL, the world’s leading manufacturer of document processing and postal solutions, today announced dramatic enhancements to its Enduro inserting system. Enduro has been identified by many as one of the most efficient gripper arm inserters ever built, but BÖWE BELL + HOWELL pushed the technology forward once again. Effective immediately, an option to add pneumatic gripper arms on Enduro will be available. Future owners of Enduro can choose to employ either pneumatic grippers in up to 24 insert feeders or the current gripper arms, or mix the two technologies for maximum flexibility. In addition to pneumatic gripper availability, BÖWE BELL + HOWELL has announced Smart GRIP (Grip Remember Inform & Pull) integrated intelligent learning capability. Through the intuitive user interface, operators can instantaneously activate the “teach” command instructing the gripper arm to read, remember and report the thickness of an insert to the operating system. As the job proceeds, all following inserts are compared, immediately identifying all double pulls and misses. Operators can choose to divert the mail piece, use insert station backup, or pause the system for a physical quality inspection. Smart GRIP is available with either pneumatic or standard gripper arms. “We continue to enrich the world’s most trusted inserting technology,” stated Patrick J. Donahue, vice president of marketing for BÖWE BELL + HOWELL. “Taking Enduro to the next level is just one of the many innovations BÖWE BELL + HOWELL will deliver to the market in 2006.” Enduro continues to employ the latest in mail piece quality and integrity features with in-track sensors to monitor the entire inserting process. Constant communication between the input modules and base system ensures the operator has constant knowledge of the location of each document set. Finally, the industry-leading JETVision reading system can be added to further increase monitoring capabilities. “The addition of pneumatics further enhances the flexibility of Enduro,” explained Steve Foy, vice president of operations and technology. “Not only can our customers continue to run multiple applications, but this technology greatly increases performance when processing difficult materials.” Initially available as a special order, pneumatic gripper arms will be rolled into Enduro as a standard option in the fourth quarter of 2006. Smart GRIP is available immediately. BÖWE BELL + HOWELL will be showing the pneumatic Enduro at GRAPH EXPO in Chicago Oct. 15 to Oct. 18.
