Press release from the issuing company

Manchester, CT – April 12, 2006 - Scan-Optics, LLC, an internationally acknowledged innovator and provider of information capture and recognition solutions, today announced that Fireproof Records Center has selected the SO Series Scanner over two primary competitors based on total cost of ownership and Scan-Optics’ non-propriety and open system technology. As a result, Fireproof has significantly increased their overall image capture capacity and realized a 50% cost reduction on a total cost of ownership basis by consolidating multiple scanners into a single SO-Series Production class scanner. As a Columbus, Ohio-based provider of multi-level information management solutions, Fireproof Records develops customized imaging solution including scan and view-on-demand, conversion of paper document to digital images, as well as physical record storage. It imaging business has been experiencing a major increase on demand and, Fireproof projects it will scan upwards of two million pages per month for their customers’ digital archives and online retrieval. With their imaging business growing, Fireproof realized that they were quickly outgrowing their current operation and required a higher quality scanning solution to meet their requirements. After a thorough analysis of production-grade, open-track, high speed scanners, including those from IBML and BancTec, Fireproof decided that the Scan-Optics SO Series scanner offered the highest quality solution at the most competitive price in the industry. In addition, it would provide them the best opportunity to grow their image capture business without having to invest in new software. The SO Series scanners provide industry standard ISIS & TWAIN drivers and interfaces. Fireproof was able to preserve their investment in capture software and existing applications without additional application development. The SO-Series simply was a plug and play addition to their current capture environment. During Fireproofs evaluation they found that the SO-Series was the only production-grade, open-track scanner that offered this plug and play capability. “Scan-Optics allowed us to increase our overall scanning capacity by 60% with the addition of one system,” said Michael James, CEO of Fireproof Records Center. In addition, at 240 ppm, the SO Series from Scan-Optics has allowed us to reduce our operating expenses, meet existing customer demand and grow our image capture business.” The SO Series offers the best price performance equation in production scanning. Rated at 240 pages per minute, the SO Series provides a clear path for scanner consolidation allowing organizations to reduce labor while driving down the overall cost to capture an image. The SO Series renders high quality color images by blending the best in optics, illumination, paper transport and image output technologies. The system easily captures a wide range of document sizes and weights. The SO Series is an ideal fit for any organization automating a document intensive process.
