ROCHESTER, N.Y.--Feb. 6, 2006-- Lincoln Public School System, the second largest district in the state of Nebraska, has signed a multiyear contract with Xerox Corporation to bring order and efficiency to its expansive printing operations. A combination of new technologies and work processes, which will be rolled out over the next six months, will allow teachers to scan the materials needed for classroom work directly to the school system's print center via advanced multifunction products from Xerox. About 250 networked Xerox WorkCentre Pro advanced MFPs --- which print, copy, fax and scan --- are being placed across the district's 54 schools. Several high-speed Xerox DocuTech Production Publishers already have been installed at the centralized print center. Once the jobs are printed, they are delivered directly to the schools by 7:30 a.m. the next day. For the first time, the schools will be able to see where their printing costs are coming from and to direct users to the printing method that costs the least. The anticipated savings will allow schools to reallocate their funds in other much-needed areas. "This solution is about improving print shop workflow and teacher efficiency," said Kirk Langer, director of technology at Lincoln Public Schools. "Our goal was to enable the teachers to get back to the business of creating documents, rather than worrying about how to produce them. It's about teachers having more time to focus on the process of teaching." In addition to the 250 WorkCentre Pro systems, Lincoln Public Schools has purchased a Xerox DocuColor 250 digital printer-copier; two DocuTech 6115 Production Publishers that print 115 pages per minute; one DocuTech 6180 Production Publisher that prints 180 ppm; and a Xerox Nuvera(TM) 120 Digital Copier/Printer, which copies, prints and scans up to 120 ppm. To keep the print infrastructure running smoothly, Lincoln Public Schools tapped Xerox Global Services for its suite of Xerox Office Services device management and reporting software tools. On-site Xerox DocuCare service technicians will use Xerox Office Services to help manage, maintain and support the systems.
